I've been getting excited planning for getting rabbits when I came across law/ordinances on keeping rabbits in Houston, TX. It said that no more than 30, need to be 100' from residences, schools, churches etc.)min lot size is 65'x125', and each animal must be allotted at least 203 square feet. I found the link from BARC. http://library.municode.com/index.aspx?clientId=10123

Does anyone in Houston follow this? I'm contemplating building a shed and putting the rabbits in there, but still paranoid. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thank you.

P.S I don't have the option of keeping them in the house.

I only see the 100 feet bit in there. I think the square feet thing has to do with commercial use. You should be fine if it's at least 100 feet between the cages and the next house. But you absolutely CANNOT dye them purple. Sorry. "It shall be unlawful for any person to dye, stain or otherwise alter the natural color of any chicken, duckling, gosling or rabbit." More importantly..do you have a Neighborhood association? They are the ones to look out for. See if you can get a copy of any covenants/etc just to be safe.

I am not a lawyer (so double check), but the way I read this.

- this refers to the size of the building or fenced area - that has to be 100 feet from the nearest neighbor.
"Sec. 6-35. - Limitation on number to be kept.
No more than 30 chickens, or 30 turkeys, or 30 geese, or 30 ducks, or 30 pea-fowls, or 30 rabbits, or 30 guinea pigs, and no more than 40 of any combination of such chickens, turkeys, geese, ducks, pea-fowls, rabbits and guinea pigs shall be kept upon any lot or enclosure of the size of 65 by 125 feet or less. In the event that such fowl or animals are kept in a larger enclosure, the number so kept and maintained may be increased only in the ratio that the above figures of 30 and 40 bear to the increase in the square footage of such larger enclosure."
If you want more than 30, you have to build a larger enclosure, and keep you ratios in mind.

You are allowed to enjoy you sweethearts, under your back porch, or by your house. Someone else may not think they are so sweet.
