After going to my first rabbit show one of breeds that stood out the most was the champange..I saw one with cross on its head.Right now I am trying to start my flemish project but I want a breed that isn't as big as flemish to use as maybe a meat rabbit? Are champange good meat rabbits and what type of personality does breed have? Also do you enjoy raising these rabbits? one of reason I want to raise this breed is because of fact that young are black then eventualy turn silver...plus I can show em a little bit more than my flemish maybe....just overall curoise about the breed ..

Champagnes as a breed typically have a better dress out then Californians and New Zealands, you just don't hear that much about them because they're not as popular as other meat breeds. They've got fantastic personalities, I don't think I've ever run across one with a poor attitude they're also very flashy especially when they're turning silver.

I bought a few a couple years ago-- they got along very well with my AmChins, and despite the rough life they had, were fairly well laid back- the really wild one tamed down so fast, it was astounding- so I feel it is probably a very 'forgiving' type of temperament in them.

25 years ago, you never saw a Champagne D'Argent around here. Today, they're one of the more popular commercial-sized breeds.

They're nice. Same can be said of the Cremes, and you'll never lack for competition at shows if that is the route you choose to go in.

Champagne also have a different meat than most of the Rabbits there meat is a bit darker and richer flavor. But yes a fun breed to raise. I call them our magic Bunnies cause they are always changing colors. And when the kids get home from school the kids say mom have you seen them they changed again.

I sold a pair to a girl in Maine which is closer then Ontario or Washington.

If I ever come up that way I will bring you some. I know of two other breeders besides me that have them so I could get you good stock. Illinois has quite a few so maybe it won't be long for them to get to you.

hummm what is neat to see in OK?
My mother was talking about wanting to go on a vacation trip.

Where in main? I have family up there. would she have any available in the next 6 months or so?

What kids of things do you like. Oklahoma has alot of fun.

__________ Fri Apr 15, 2011 10:32 pm __________

There is also a service called Rabbit Taxi. They shuffle bunnies from show to show. So maybe they can get something a little closer to you.

And Good Hare Daze is the girl that had champagne also. Find her on face book or just google her.

We should have a litter of pure champagnes this month. There are a bunch of breeders up in wisconsin so that's where we got ours. I love my doe. She raised 6 argente x mini rex and 2 pure mini rex her first litter. The buck I wish was a slightly better breeder but I think I'm spoiled by one of my MR bucks who will successfully mate a dozen times in 10 minutes until his sides are heaving and he looks ready to pass out. I have to drag him off the does before they try to castrate him. Our first litter of argente x MR butchered at an average of 4.5lbs each at 3 months so that wasn't bad considering their sire is a whole 4lbs and they were fed on mostly straight grains and hay that equaled only 12-14% protein. One of the few bucks in the litter was 5lbs. I found them to be pellet hogs if you let them. My first 2 does found all sorts of ways to get extra pellets when I first put them in the colony. A few times they managed to eat pounds of pellets overnight by knocking down buckets from the 4' high stack of cages or shoving/digging/tearing their way to a feed sack. They don't suffer from restricting their pellets though and I've slowly convinced them to eat more hay. I just can't free feed them straight pellets like I can the MR. They are a little better about not over eating whole grains.

Hmm, I don't have a problem. I get mine 1/2 to 3/4 cup pellets only. Most of the time they have a few left in there cup. I bet over time it would level out once they are getting everything they need from the pellets. 50 lb bag of pellets last me over 2 weeks. We have 11 rabbits on that bag. We show our rabbits so we feed also some Oats and Black Oil Sunflower seeds. And just a 1 tbs of each as a treat at night.
