Champagne D'Argent breeders

I am new to rabbits but I did find a Champagne buck on craigslist. What do you guys think of him? He is about 10 months old but I have been raising him since he was 8 weeks old. Hopefully I will be breeding him soon to my two Flemish Giant does yet this fall.

I think Devon's Mom Lauren's way of putting it is much better. Breed by weight. I like most of my does going to be bred to be around 8-9 lbs. Anything smaller and I usually worry they could be stunted(small chance but ya never know) I only say 8 months because Ive had a few does who dont like taking till at least 7(not too sure why). Mary Ann love the first doe. Looks like she's just a tad long on her topline, but she should grow into it too. She's definately a keeper. The second doe is very nice as well, looks like her shoulder could be shortened up a little but its very hard to tell from the angle of the pic. Very nice hindquarter though.
Basenji it's hard to tell from the pics. Without him posed he looks flat, but im by no means an expert, especially with just pics. lol. Love his coloration though and gorgeous head. One of my favorite Champagne qualities and ill never know why is the shape of their head and ear. lol

Superb doe Devon. Absolutely awesome type. Could I ask what his/her weight is? Was just wondering if it was just the picture that makes the animal look small or not

:dogsled: I am verry interestid in champagnes, but have been unable to find them. my goal with rabbits is mostly for meat, but i do want to show as well. Are the bones finer? is it a good cross with NZs? I have many, many questions.

Champagnes are a great meat rabbit on their own, with a decent bone to meat ratio.

I'm hoping to raise them for meat, and show. Keeping an eye out for a doe right now.
It will be a totally new adventure for me.......never raised anything but smaller fancy breeds, and Angoras. Excited to begin!

Wishing you all the luck finding a doe. Have to agree it's just a different venture having a bigger rabbit vs the smaller fancy breeds. Both are very unique experiences. Glad to hear you are enjoying your big breed buck. Wishing you all the success in showing and producing meat rabbits. Hope you post when you find your Champagne D'Argent doe.

I just was going over this again. I just notice this... I have his rabbit. Those are the ones that i just got shipped in 2 months ago. I have one doe from him that will not breed no matter what i do. I forced breed her and see what happens. If not i will wait till the end of march and if it still goes on. Out she goes. But beautiful rabbits. and good stock. and healthy. I recommend him to anyone. He wins allot at shows. I did use his buck on one on my other champagne doe that is due in a few days. lol... they start earlier than that. about 3 weeks old is when they start. but it takes up until they are about 3.5 months old to finish .. depending on the line.

Lovely kit Mary Ann! Thanks for sharing! Must be just awesome watching them change. Knew they started changing at a young age but didn't know the time span it took them to change.
