Central Florida - meat rabbits - Introduction

I’m new here and live in central florida. I used to raise rabbits for meat for the family about 13 years ago and I’m wanting to get back to it. I’m also looking into raising Guinea pigs for the same purpose although I prefer the larger version of Cuye but I’m having a real hard time finding them and it’s more frowned upon then rabbits in the US. Also I can’t seem to find a Captive Bolt gun for dispatching them. So it’s all frustrating.

White New Zealand’s are what I raised before and my plan is to get them again. I still need to rebuild the cages though. So I may not get the rabbits until after the heat of summer.

I’m glad I found this resource of all you knowledgeable people. I’ve been enjoying reading the discussions.

You may want to look for TAMUK rabbits. They were bred for Texas heat. Their commercial line look like NZWs. Here are mine:

These were born in November, so I have not weighed them yet. The breeder I got them from says his does got to 10 or 11 lbs and his bucks were nice sized too. These are already bigger than my meat muts born a month earlier.
