I've built some cages using materials on hand. They are 36" long with some 24" wide and some 30" wide. They are framed in 2x2 lumber with bottoms of 1/2" hardware cloth, sides and top of 1" hex chicken wire or sometimes called "poultry netting". They can be stacked and I probably will want to stack them at some point but I am stumped as to what to use to catch waste under each cage. I thought of maybe 1/8" Masonite framed with 1x2 lumber and covered with plastic sheeting, that's about the best I've come up with so far.
Any "cheap & easy" ideas?

You can purchase pre made plastic or metal pans from several of the online vendors.
You may also try to find someone in your area who can make specific sizes for you. A/C shops almost always have sheet metal and benders to make pans for A/C. One of the guys may be interested in making a little money on the side.

They sell over-sized drip pans that are used to collect excess water under washing machines. They sell over-sized ones at Lowe's that are 31"X36" which is perfect for under my hand made wire cages. They are $30 each.

Bass equipment pans aren't too expensive. We have some custom ones and they cost us less than $20 each. You can make wood water proof with either polyurethane or enamel and it will act like plastic.
