ENTER THOSE DOES IN THE SHOW!!

As far as the tris go, yes its better to stay within the variety according to the 'colour rules' since the ej gene can be partially expressed and that can give you unshowable colours (also known as 'dinner' at my house).

I plan to have a 'second herd' of tris at some point because they're the only broken colour/pattern that I like

I entered both of the does last night. I know the broken will not do well at all, but it may help someone get a leg. She also has no colour on her nose. It is SO white. Not good.

So MSD, are you going to the show? Pretty please? ....you can bring me a buck :D

__________ Wed Sep 17, 2014 11:49 am __________

I think she is a little offended I won't buy from her now. She said, "this is why I dont like to send pictures...if it was so easy to judge we would not drive hours to go show rabbits we would just send pictures...i will be at the show saturday. if you want to see what I have to sell...and if you dont want to buy from me it is ok to. But the senior buck is staying home. I will bring juniors only. they are 3 to 4 months old. you will see by yourself the junior I bring and make you decision. I am working with good lignes and usualy I eat every single one I dont keep. Be sure I am not pushing for sales. I just find some are to cute to eat...lol"

You might tell her that learning to pose them correctly would be a huge help in getting their...quality....to come across in pics.

I bet her own rabbits won't be in the show. Actually, I would think she would learn how to pose just from attending shows to....not push for sales.

I'm TRYING to not make that sound sarcastic. Really.

LOL...IF I get a junior buck from her, I want a judge to give me their opinion first...if they have the time....she thinks I should just decide if they are good or not in person...well not if I don't know what I'm looking for. I have a lot of studying to do.

I told her I was confused, etc. blah blah ....she said "I know exactly what you are going trought. I was the first one to raise Rex and EA. It takes few years to build your herd but you will do it right I'm sure."
First one? What does that mean? First in family? County? State? ??? Whatever...I hope there's plenty of Rex for sale at the show.

__________ Wed Sep 17, 2014 1:04 pm __________

...she will be a registrar at the show

Neh, I think I was just being rude. (one of my bad habits is not thinking before I speak) It can be really hard to pose and take pictures by yourself.

Letting the judge look them over would be best, but if they seem too busy, ask someone there who is entering rex to help you evaluate, or at least help show you how to evaluate on your own rabbits. Most people there are going to be total rabbit geeks who want nothing more than to discuss toplines and depth and shoulder with someone equally interested. ;)

I was actually taught a bit about posing and rex type by a kid at a show. He looked to be about...11? You'd be surprised by how much some of those kids know!

It was unanimous , none of us liked that buck .... If he was such a great critter , he'd be entered in the show , not staying home. If she's offended or has her feelings hurt , that's her problem. Too cute to eat doesn't always mean the animal is brood or show quality. Here those types end up as pets .... or dinner if I cant find them suitable homes.

As MSD said above , your buck is half your herd. Just too important an animal to buy an inferior animal as even if you have the perfect doe , if there is such a thing , that buck will set you back years trying to weed thru the genetic junk of a poor buck.

You don't often find senior stock for sale , there is a reason for that - People just don't have the space to keep adult rabbits that aren't part of their breeding stock and they value highly those animals that are. They don't part with them.

If it was me & money / space wasn't an issue , I'd purchase multiple juniors of both sexes that exhibited strong qualities in the colors I preferred and grow them out , weeding out the less desirables along the way.

I don't state the above to be mean and hope it doesn't come across that way (I'm sure it does as I can come across as harsh) , just telling it like it is.

Getting the judges opinions prior to making a purchase is a good plan.

Zass was right , getting them to pose correctly makes it much easier to decide on type , not just from photos but in person too.

Thanks Zass & Ramjet. I will keep that in mind. My husband has restricted me from spending too much, so I don't know how many I will be able to buy. I hope the prices are decent for juniors (if there's any there!)...There will be the tris and harlis, but I don't want to be raising a second herd.
It's pretty hard for me to pose rabbits for pictures, because my camera is broken. The flash that pops up won't stay up. So I have to use both hands to hold up the flash and click the button...I should get someone to help me next time LOL...I want a new camera...every time I get ready to take a pic the rabbit moves. Maybe if I obsess about handling them lots, they will hold still for me.
I will work on posing so that I can pose any potential juniors for sale at the show, to get a better look at them.

Just so you're aware and it doesn't come as a surprise, if your broken doe has no nose marking she will be DQ'd at the show. You should still get some commentary on her though, so if that's what you're looking for, you should still feel free to enter her.

Triple B is right- but if she has even a freckle anywhere in her whisker bed or on the nose, she wont. All else being equal, if she is up against a bun with a nose marking, it will place higher than her.

As long as the reason for the DQ is marked on the control sheet, her entry will still count for someone seeking a leg. :)
