Furthering my education...
I bred Spice to Royal.
Spice is a rex cross, chestnut.
Royal is a black pointed white (purebred Cali, to my knowledge~ I visited the rabbitry and they had Calis and NZW/ NZR).

Spice kindled two kits... I expected chestnuts, I got what *appears* (only day 2) to be a lilac and a fawn/orange?

I'm trying to work this through....

Spice (Chestnut) phenotype is A_B_C_D_E_
Royal (Cali) phenotype is aa B_ch_D_E_ (assuming that is the base for a pointed rabbit, being a self black under the albinism?)

Seeing that lilac (it doesn't seem blue, definitely more pinkish grey), I can extrapolate a genotype, fairly certainly:
(edited to account for the ee fawn kit)

Spice (Chestnut) Aa Bb Cc(or ch) Dd Ee (carries self, brown, less dominant c locus, dilute and non-extension)
Royal (Cali) aa Bb ch_ Dd Ee (self, carries brown, himi, carries dilute and non-extension)

So the lilac kit would be aa bb Cch (or c) dd E_
And the reddish one would be A_ B_ C_ D_ ee

(I was thinking of breeding Royal the Cali to my cc NZW/ Satin cross to try and get some pointed whites, which would fill in his full c locus)

It looks like these two really went against the odds!

Yes, these were to be our first freezer bunnies and Spice goes and has two distinct and very pretty babies.
A mom will do anything to save her kids LOL

White c is still recessive to all of the other lower c locus genes, first chin (chd), sable (chl), cal (chl) then white c.

A chestnut becomes a Fawn/Red/Cream with the introduction of the non extension gene (most known as tort)

If a ch rabbit is a self black with albino gene giving them the temp sensitive coat, can they hide a variety of options on C, D and E like a cc?

A ch rabbit is a self black with the himilayan gene, which limits colors to the extremities and makes them temp sensitive. A himi/cal/pointed white can only carry another ch or REW on the C locus.

Odds on kits are only probabilities based on the color dominance over time with several litters, which in my genetic world, rarely play out as the numbers suggests.

Yes a fawn would be ee on an otherwise chestnut. That means both parents are Ee. A himi does not hide anything like a rew but some things can be hard to tell since there is so little color to go on.

i bought a JW I thought was just a pointed white that had little color because of the heat. turns out he was a torted pointed white. i used him in my shaded program, so future generations will get interesting.

Waaaiiit.
So he would be 'ee' but that is hidden on him but could show up on his progeny?

I love that this offhand breeding turned out such interesting colours and allowed me to get such a filled in genotype (lilac is good for that, isn't it?)! :)

Sometimes ee shows up as missing colors. This is a black himi ee netherland I had with a fairly extreme color differences. Many are less obvious and you can find 2 others on the rabbitcolors.info site

I agree the Orange is a fawn = Aa B_ C ch D_ ee and bet the "lilac" is a Siamese sable = aa B_ cchl ch D_ E_

This means Spice is - Aa B_ C cchl D_ Ee

And Royal is - aa B_ ch ch D_ Ee (assuming he is self black and doesn't carry REW)

Get out of town! :p
Seriously? That would be wild... my very favourite colour of rabbits are the sable/siamese sable.
I figured 'someday' one might turn up in my daughter's lops.
I never expected it in my meat pens

The worst part is that I swore up and down that this litter would be our first meat to eat...
now how on earth can I eat this one when I have to let it grow up to see how it turns out?!

*shakes fist at the capricious rabbit genetic gods*
*mentally tries to rearrange cages after having to split two pairs of growouts for fighting and making room for incoming rexes*
*brain explodes*

{the sad, sad end to a raging case of rabbitosis}

The buck was lighter than akane's/ it didn't help that he was blue, that makes the color more faded.

I don't have any more ee in the barn, and I would have to breed dam to son to see it in action

My siamese sable turn right about the time it would reach fryer age, so you will know soon.

I love watching them change:) I have a 4 week old seal and Siamese sable JW pair now, and it is the coolest thing. The SiSa is just starting to lighten around the face.

The ee himis are wild!
I think I'd be getting them cold just to see the colours LOL
WE'll definitely be watching this little mutt with great curiosity!
(And I say little very lightly since this pair was bigger at birth than my Flemish cross litter!
