So we made an 8' cage which has two 36" holes(for the does) on each end and a 24" in the middle(possibly for a buck).

|---36"---|--24"--|---36"---|

Is it safe to put anything in the middle/24" hole or should I use that as a temporary switch out cage or storage? I don't want the rabbits causing issues just because they are close to each other.

all of my cages are side to side with each other and several share walls as a unit. I haven't had any problems, but you can put up metal dividers between if you want.

All of my cages are touching at least the sides, and my top tier of doe cages are back to back as well. Some rabbits will spray urine on each other or chew each other's fur, which is why I think some cages have metal dividers. I don't have any that spray like that and haven't had fur issues either.

Perfect...thanks for the feedback. I will be putting the buck in when I get home from work then :) If I see any problems I guess I can just put him back in his other cage.

One of the "ladies" might get jealous if he plays favorites, but other than that I see no problems!

I have 2x4ft cages, does sharing a wall. No issues and plenty of room for kits to stay with her and grow out in there.

If you put a buck between two does without a solid divider be prepared for the possiblity of a peed on doe. i agree that it would make good grow out pen for some babbies or a nice jr or two....

Rustina has a good point- my bucks are all on the bottom tier with the does on top for the most part. I do have a junior doe and buck side by side on the bottom tier right now (siblings) and I bred him today to an older doe- I will let you know if his hormones really kick in and he pees on his littermate!

Ok well I put the buck in and things seemed to be fine so far. I will check on them in the morning. If the buck pees on the does then I'll just put it back in a seperate cage. I kinda wanted to get away from using the single cages though.

I house bucks and does next to each other in cages that share a wall all the time. I have one doe I won't because she is a biter. And I learned the hard way not to do it with bucks, I had one grab the others lip and rip, poor Dewy healed okay but is missing part of his lip now and can't be shown. The peeing is also an issue. Especially with white rabbits.

Good to know. How high does the divider need to be? My hutch I am building, each section is 24" high. Would adding plywood 12" high be enough? If I need to I'll build another cage under the hutch for the buck(s). I was planning to build a large grow out cage under there later when needed, but if I need to house the buck under there then I'll do it sooner. My hutch is three cage across each 25" deep and 36" wide and share a wall in btween each section.

Go to your local hardware store or lumber yard and got some 14" metal flashing. cut it to length. punch/drill a few holes in it and ring it in place in the cage.

Grumpy.
