I'm having some troubles figuring out the C Locus Gene. The buck is a chestnut so is that not C-? The doe is a black so she would also be C-. I know the pair both have had a Sable and a Chinchilla. So would that make one C cchd and the other C cchl? I also know that the buck has produced a REW with another doe. That would lead me to believe that the buck is C c. I know I'm wrong, just not sure where.

Thank you Dood. I'm trying to figure this out. In the self chinchilla, is it the a gene that is causing the light color not to show? Would this make the buck Aa and the doe aa?

Self hides chinchilla and chinchilla (cchd) is dominant to light shaded (cchl) so a self rabbit doesn't look seal or sable.

You can get Agouti sables who are A_ cchl_, the breed American sable is this colour, so your buck could be AA. If he has a black kit, or any self colour such as chocolate or blue, then you could confirm he is Aa and carries the self gene.

He has thrown 2 black kits, with the above doe. That would make him Aa then, even if the the 2 black kits are self chinchilla like their mamma, right?

__________ Sun May 19, 2013 9:40 am __________
