I am new to the rabbit world. Have 7 Mini Rex that I would like to breed and show. I have a blue buck, blue otter buck, REW buck, 2 blue does and a REW doe. Then the other doe that I have is a Brown Eyed White (Ermine) and I am unsure which buck to breed her to. I am leaning towards the REW as the pedigree shows that she is out of red sire and red dam. Any suggestions or advice on the brown eyed white doe dilemma??

My REW buck has castor, black and what they call smoke on his pedigree...Which I believe he means a chin color. My Brown Eyed White doe has red, black, "smoke", and lilac on her pedigree.

You could get some self chins as it sounds like self is present in both pedigrees. You could also get other colors as well because recessives can linger around without ever showing up on a pedigree but they aren't as likely.

The smoke abbreviation is actually smoke pearl. Which isn't a chin at all (Siamese smoke pearl equiv in other breeds). Unless some one is using their "own" system or doesn't know really what they had because some times they can be confused with sable frosts...I would err away breeding an ermine with one that has smoke in the background unless you don't mind miss marks. I would IF they were the best typed pair, but I'm also prepared to deal with a litter of unshowables.

He had his own system and just made his pedigrees on Excel. He admitted he didn't know what color to call the buck that he called Smoke. From what I remember, he showed the "smoke" buck to me, he would be considered a chin from what I've seen of colors. I bought my first mini rexs last July. Both blue with pedigrees that the seller never did get to me, even after asking several times and giving them the option of sending them any way they want. :x So, lesson learned, get the pedigrees and don't take their word for it that they will send it to you. I then bought 5 from this gentleman that I got the Brown Eyed White from. He had never seen one born this color before and I didn't have the heart to leave her there knowing that she would end up in the butcher pen. So here she is with me now...She is a sweetheart and the kids love her. Thank you for the input on her. Will try her with the REW as I really don't think that Blue or Blue Otter would be a good cross on her...
