One of my JW kits is peeing bloody urine. What could be the cause of this and what can I do? Do I need to cull him asap?

The only difference in their diet was I ran out of oats so gave them barley starting two days ago. Could this be causing it? I thought he had what resembled blood on a few hairs earlier but then thought it couldn't be blood. There was no reason for blood.

But now their are puddles of blood.

Ok ok. Sweet. I thought he was peeing blood. UGH

Woke husband up to cull the poor little guy.

Now I guess he can start packing instead.

Changes in diet (especially greens) and in weather can cause red urine. I forget the science behind it. If there are no other symptoms it's just a weird rabbit thing.

Yes, red urine is absolutely alarming! But in the absence of other symptoms, like Akane said, it's just a weird rabbit thing.

Rabbits can pee every color of the rainbow. Somebody mentioned seeing purple pee once.

If you feed purple cabbage to chickens you get teal poop.

I was probably the one mentioning purple urine. I've also seen blue and green and, of course, red. The local cottontails leave their tracks in the snow as well as the urine stains, so I know it was from rabbits.

That is interesting MaggieJ. My little one has cleared up and is doing fine. Thank you all for easing my mind. :)

Liquid rainbows come out the back side of rabbits, not Unicorns. =/

Sorry to dredge up this older post but that comment just made me giggle. My DH would say ... "So that's how the Trix Cereal gets it's color!"
