I have a 8 week old mini Rex that urine looks like blood or is red looking. Just picked him up. Something to worry about ?

-- Tue May 17, 2016 9:32 pm --

I think I found some answers under the search. If anyone has anything to add feel free.
Thanks for looking !!

Usually rabbit pee can be all the colors of the rainbow depending on what they've eaten, so most likely it's pee. Blood is a much thicker consistency than pee and will congeal into flakes in a few minutes due to coagulants, whereas pee will still by liquidy after a few minutes.

Great job doing the research!!!! Keep it up!! The old threads on here are the best education ANYWHERE!! You'll find there's typically three ways to do something right LOL.

Rabbit in question is a mini Rex buck. I don't think he knows how to pee in his pan!!!!! Wow. Got home from work today and the floor was red everywhere!!!

We got home once to a rabbitry that looked like a crime scene. The rabbitry was winterized, so the open wire fence side had visqueen covering it. Well, I do not exaggerate when I say it looked like a chain saw murder had happened. Fine to medium blood spray all over the visqueen, which was ~5' from the rabbits. It was absolutely freaky.

We found that the spray was on the inside of the visqueen on a still-locked rabbitry, and knew that rabbits could pee red, so we continued our own investigation before calling the cops.

Looking at the spray all over stuff inside the rabbitry, we finally settled on one buck as the culprit. I had read on here that bucks could spray pretty far if they wanted to, but I'd never had it demonstrated so well for me. I just wished he'd picked a different color to pee in that night.
