I have a BEW lionhead doe. I want to produce BEW kits. I have looked all over for a BEW buck, but cannot find one close enough. What other colours can I look for in a buck that will produce BEW kits from my doe? Please keep it simple, I do not easily understand colours and genetic codes. Thank you.

You need to breed to a Venna carrier.

Vienna carriers often have white marks on their face, nose and feet but this could also be the Dutch or Broken gene producing the white

The surest way is to find a rabbit that had a BEW parent. It will definately have one BEW gene (called Vienna) and when bred to your BEW you should get 50% BEW and 50% vienna carriers.

ok Thank you! I just happen to be going to someone's house today that has lionheads for sale, the father is a BEW. (They are not willing to sell their buck, or let me use him for breeding). Perhaps one of the kits is a buck. yay!

BEW is a receive gene. This means it is over powered by any other gene except a BEW gene. If you want BEW babies you need a buck who at least has one BEW gene. Vienna marks and carriers have one BEW gene one solid gene. BEWs have two BEW genes. Theses are the only combinations that will make BEWs.

BEW+Vienna mark/carrier = half BEWs half Vienna mark/carriers.
BEW+BEW = all BEWs

Where do you live. I specialize in raising BEW lionheads. I know a lot of BEW breeders. I may be able to help you find a good buck!

P.S. Vienna marks and carriers can appear any color or pattern. The breeder will know if it is a Vienna mark or carrier though.

I have a Bew doe named BunBun I actually found her abandoned a few years ago. Well I am unsure of what breed she is... She has bright blue eyes and is a medium size around 8-9 pounds with skinny ears but look longer than polish ears. Its just hard to figure out what she is other than a Vienna obviously...

Saw the bew post and decided to hop in! Hope you guys have a idea!?

:bunnyhop:

Anyone have a clue of what breed she is?

I would consider that large rather than medium.

Regardless, there are not many breeds in that weight range who carry are BEW or carry the Vienna gene. It is a colour seen in Beverans but your bun doesn't have the right body type. Angoras come in this colour and your rabbits body shape is similar so I believe your BunBun is a likely an angora cross, possibly with a dwarf breed like Netherlands or Polish as BEW are more common the these small breeds.
