I have a BEW doe kit. In future, I would like to breed it to my friend's BEW buck. They are both lionheads, and we don't know the background of either rabbit. I am wanting BEW kits from them. Will this breeding pretty much guarantee only BEW kits, or will it be a mix of colours do you think?

Bew to bew is only bew kits... but I've read things stating that bews should only be bred to solids, and that vm to vm is the best way to get quality BEW.

You will get BEW because they are both (vv). There is no other possibility. Now if one of them carries shaded, you might get eyes with red hue, but otherwise you should be fine.

Thanks so much for the quick replies! And that link was so helpful! See, that's why I love this forum, you guys are great! :-D

I have a blue Beveren doe that was bred by Barbi Brown. I noticed she had BEW in her background, and asked her about it, since I had been told to avoid breeding BEW to my doe because of the possibility of VM kits. This was her response:

The problem with BEW in any breed is that extreme close line breeding increases the possibility of seizure disorders. I make a point now of trying to avoid the same ancestor in 3 generations appearing more than twice.

Hope that will be helpful for your program. :)
