Shoot!!! Well I'm glad I found this out before I put my carries-Chocolate buck in with her!!!! My plan is to put a nice buck with her, get a good VM/VC buck kit from the breeding...and hold him back to breed back to the same doe for more pretty BEWs. I was hoping my new buck would work for that. Apparently not!
Personally, I'd try it. No way to know unless you do, and you'll either end up with some adoraballs kits to sell as pets, some extra meat for your freezer, or the perfect edition to your BEW program.
Opal is the dilute of chestnut I believeyoubcan "clean up" your BEWS with REW if they have problems with red hues and such. The used to have awesome informational sites available on BEW projects, but they are no longer available
I have 2 blue beverens bred to a bew currently. I am going to breed the vm back into the bew line to try to get some genetic diversity and improve hardiness.
There is chocolate in the one blues line but I think the eye color should clear up within a couple generations. The pictures I have seen is just a slight reddish tinge, not glaringly red so not too apparent in the ones I saw.
Chocolate will only affect the eye colour if the BEW is hiding the chocolate. Same with cchd, cchl, and ch. As long as the rabbit is B_ D_ C_ under the BEW you will be fine.
I'm not sure what is under the BEW, it is kind of interesting to find out. I would assume blue or black since there is a "broken" aka VM back a ways. I am actually curious to see if I get all VMs or if one of the does is a VC.
Well, Dilute under the BEW usually gives it a dull blue colour, not the bright sapphire blue you really want... At least that's what I'm told. My blue VM buck had one eye that was half dilute blue, and half BEW blue, if you understand what I mean.
The first generation I am expecting all non showable colors, messed up colors but according to a couple of the beveren breeders who have done the cross before, once I take that generation and breed back to a bew I should get 25 % that are correct BEWs.
We will see how it turns out. As long as I am back to showable bews in a few generations I will be happy. I am actually really looking forward to what I get in the litters, a fun little experiment that hopefully improves hardiness.
