Anyone use hay racks that are solid backed and have recommendations as to the best ones? I want the kind that fits on the outside of the cage.

Been looking online and I see some from petco that are plastic but comments say hay slides right out the bottom. There are Lixit brand plastic ones that have a bottom, and they get decent reviews. Then Bass has galvanized ones but they look in the picture to be really narrow which makes me wonder if it would be hard to reach in there and pull out any old hay.

We are currently using home made wire ones but I think I would rather have solid ones. Appreciate any suggestions - thanks!

Someone gave me a plastic one, and I hated it...it's one of those Petco ones. I threw it away.

I've got no other suggestions though. Best of luck finding what you need!!! :)

Just wait a little while, and I will have some available.

The design is in the patent process now. :p

LOL - how long is "a little while"? I have seen the mountains of red tape this government makes you climb...

We use old plastic milk bottles that are wired to the outside of the cages. You cut of the spout and handle part and then on the bottom you cut in a flap. Wire it to the cage and stuff it full. I would love to have some homemade wire ones, but when I tried that myself it was all wonky.

Pictures would be great. I like what we use enough but if I could manage a wire one that would be an upgrade. My wire ones looked really bad and weren't functional.

Well in this picture it obviously isn't working as our doe kept moving the nest box in front of it. But here is the milk jug picture. I like to re-purpose when I can and I can make a mean cage myself but somehow making a hay rack just isn't in my repertoire.

__________ Thu Aug 15, 2013 5:24 pm __________

I like the milk jug, too. My rabbits waste a LOT of hay, so I've been trying to figure out hwhat I could use to have solid sides and bottom so hay can only be pulled through the cage wire. If I am losing so much through floor wire, I didn't think a rack with holes that size or larger would work. Thx for the idea.

I just made mine out of some scrap wire. You could cut some thin metal and slide it inside the wire and attach it if you want a solid back. Only takes a few minutes to make several of these.

Cut a piece of wire like this.

Bend it over a board.

I realy like that fire man.... im saving it!!

Simple. Make them as big as you want. This is really good for people that make their own cage------gives you something to do with that scrap/door cut out wire.
