I talked to another breeder today that has had to put down several of her rabbits do to bloat. Has anyone else had this same issue because of bad feed? At this point I will not mention brand names in case it is not the pellets that are not the issue. She is an experienced breeder with a large herd so I do take her word on raising rabbits. I am just curious to see if others have had substantial herd losses do to bad feed?

Thanks
Dan

P.S
This thread is not meant for bad mouthing feed producers or businesses that sell it, unless you can back your story up with real facts.

Sounds as though the soy meal wasn't sufficiently steamed. Raw soy can cause that (provided, as you say, it really is the pellets.

What about old feed? Could it have been old? I got some a month ago(no names) from a farm store and every time I fed it to just some of my rabbits they had loose stools. Could it be bad? I have stopped feeding it and switched to different feed that I got from a store that does way more volume. Yes, I threw out the bag when I emptied it into my storage bin so I don't have a date :((

Not the bloat but poor conditioning and trouble breeding for months untill we switched feed.it was a brand i used for years.

Mills are bad about changing the formula without telling you and small mills are often inconsistent. On brands we are accustomed to using we seldom check the tag for more than the percentage of protein although I suppose we should check the ingredients list on every bag..

I have not talked to the breeder this week so I can not give an update, but she did mention the possibility of the mill puchaseing poor quality ingredients.
