Got back 11:30 last night.

The joy of sleeping in my own bed.

First, it was very cool to meet SatinsRule in person. We were both very busy at the show, perhaps next time we will have more time to discuss Satins.

The show was very educational. Unfortunately, my black and black otter buns got DQ's for stray white hairs. This is from the litter that had the white toes. I had thought that I checked these two kits and culled the rest, but they started to molt between the time I weighed them Tuesday and when I packed them in the dark Friday. The molt I noticed and started to scratch the entry. If I had not been gone all day Friday, and packed them in the light, I would have noticed. And the judged pointed out one spot on the belly on the black doe, the second judge placed her second in the class, but this morning I looked over her ears and body, and as she molts I see white hairs across her back and on her ears. GGRRRR. I talked to my breeder, and my options are cull the kits, and the doe, or test breed. I don't that kind of time, I think I will just cull them all.

Speaking of cull, I noticed how much bigger everyone's Rex are again. I talked it over with my breeder, and the culling will start again tonight.

I picked up my black angora buck, he's just 12 weeks. What a cutie :)

I had an itch for a chestnut Jersey Wooly, but when I saw them in person, I realized they looked nothing like Castor in Rex, and I just don't like chestnut in other breeds. Well maybe I might look for chins at Convention.

Sorry to hear about your white hairs.....I have one EXCELLENT buck with them and he is only bred to Charlie's for 100% brokens and everyone is warned about his fault. He is worth it to me to keep around but understand the cull logic. My daughter uses him for showmanship and oddly enough when he is molting the white hairs are incredibly hard to see and we have shown him and won. The judges fault him for scattered whites but his type and fur are so great that he is still hard to beat. My daughter's top black doe has zero whites and plan to keep her line that way. Sounds like you at least had fun and getting to meet a fellow RT person was icing on the cake!

Sorry to hear about the faults :( I know you have been trying to get some show-quality stock, so here's hoping your SFs can meet your show qualities!

And :congratulations: on getting a black angora! They are so cool to spin their wool!

Just take some judge's opinions with a grain of salt with the silver fox. Not all of them understand how to judge silvering. Obvious white spots and scattered silvering are a problem and they should all be able to judge good type, but out of the 15 judges we've had in the last year I think probably half did a good job judging the level of silvering. Also given the unique coat, many judges don't see how important it is that the SF coat stands up when stroked against the grain.

The white hairs are not on the SF, but on a black and black otter Rex. They aren't scattered, they are clustered, like she was in a knife fight and the hair grew back white, except she has not had a scratch on her body, I am sure of.

I didn't show any SF, unfortunately, my does are so naked, I decided to keep them at home and just breed them.

How neat that you got to meet Satin'sRule!

I had a great time with Caroline at the CA convention- we seem to have a similar sense of humor, but I don't think she matches me for overall nuttiness!

I'm hoping to meet some of our CA members at the KCRBA show in Bakersfield on the 25th. :)

I have trouble with scattered white hairs in my blacks. In fact, with one or two exceptions I have been culling them all.

Oops, sorry I was speaking just about SF in general, not this weekend's show buns.

Your does are naked? Like in molt or truly furless?

In molt, seems that everyone is in molt, between the seasons and the Penpals, they molted right down to the skin, Jersey Woolies and SF. On the Rex seem to have hair on them, and it's all two toned with molt.

The SF just stalled on me, stopped growing. They are 1yrs as of last month, and only weight 8lbs. I will breed them and probably cull them.

wish I could have been there :( Our 4h advisors son is the ohio state prince.
