Mrs Howell's litter is feisty! I had to put the black and one of the broken blacks in the nest. They'd turtled themselves against the side of the nest box! I'm really liking the gray one - whatever color it actually is - and am almost tempted to bring them inside so they don't meet the same fate as their escapee sibling did this morning.

What color is this? :?

Minnow's litter. Just a day old. 5 squirmy little munchkins, all fairly content to stay in the nest (for now).

Blue is the dilute of Black....so that would be the more likely option. One of them could be carrying chocolate, and lilac is the dilute of chocolate.

I'll go with blue. Mom and Dad were siblings, and both Dad and Aunt have small chocolate patches in their fur. I wish Dad hadn't been so mean. =( He made such pretty kits. I'm hoping for a good tempered buck from one of the litters to breed back to mama.

They're really starting to get some fur. I had to put one back in the nest today - it had crawled all the way across the colony.

The oddball kit is getting pretty chunky.

Eyes should start opening any day now. :mbounce:

I'm trying to stay hands-off Minnow's babies. She's not as accepting of me looking as Mrs Howell is.

One of my broken blacks just died. I think it got crushed.

Poor guy. Then there were 3.

My "blue" was very lazy. I hope he didn't get compressed, too. Mrs Howell was in the nestbox when I came in, so maybe it just had a nice belly filling.

On the plus side, the black one is just starting to open its eyes. When I shined the flashlight toward them, it squinted. =)

__________ Tue Jun 25, 2013 10:49 am __________

Eyes are open today and they're hopping around the nest!

The black wouldn't stay still! She was jumping all around and generally causing trouble.

Minnow's nest. It's kind of a work in progress. Every time I check it, there's more fur pulled, more hay added, etc.

And Mrs Howell, signalling that I am no longer allowed to play with her babies.

Y'know, Mrs Howell was the MEANEST little rabbit. Then she had this litter, and she became insanely sweet. Still not a cuddler, but she will nudge my legs and sit near my feet when I hop in the colony to feed/water/pet.

The gray one barely escaped death by Aunt Minnow. They're all separated. It stressed Minnow WAY more than it stressed Mrs Howell - she's gotten used to me fussing about over her babies, removing them from the nest, and generally poking around. Minnow...not so much.

I came out this morning to find Minnow nursing them...outside the nest.

3 were good little popples and crawled right back in. One went walkabout and got stuck in a corner, but went back in when I put him near the opening (after peeing all over me). The fifth found the ONE gap in the shelf and got himself caught between the wall and the colony base. It's just barely over a 1/2" opening. I don't know HOW he got in there, rolled at just the right angle I guess.

I have some nice scratches on from cutting the fence around the colony enclosure, and shoving my big Irishpaws into an itty bitty space. I don't know if he got hurt in the retrieval or not. When I picked him up, he was throwing his head way back. Poor guy.

__________ Sat Jun 29, 2013 1:08 pm __________

One of Minnow's babies is really runty. REALLY runty. While the others have stopped flippy-flopping and begun crawling, this one still twists and turns and throws its head around. It's also about half the size of the other kits. I first (noticed and) checked her nest on 6/17, and there were 5. So they should all be at least 12 days old. The rest are nice and big and opening their eyes.

No dwarf genes...any ideas? Just a super small kit?

I had one of those with my French Lops. Except, he died the day after he was born. I wouldn't expect the little guy to live this long.

Here's a picture. The larger one peed as soon as I set him on the box. How polite.

The one on the left looks/acts nearly fresh from the oven. He has just as much fur as his compatriots, though.

Aww they are so cute!! R new bundle are escape artest I'm forever sticking them back in there nests lol

More pictures! I still have no idea what to call the gray kit. :?

The broken black and black both appear to be does. The gray one appears to be a buck. :p

ETA: I weighed them all today, too. The black is 10.5 ounces, the others are 8.5.
