I see that ARBA sells a book with the SOP for all the recognized breeds. Is that the only source for the SOP? I have only one breed, do I really need the book with all the SOPs?

I highly recommend having a copy of the SOP. It is the only source, that I'm aware of. Not only is it valuable for your breed, but it has a list of every general disqualification, ARBA rules and regulations, and if you should ever decide to expand and get more breeds, they're right there.

Plus, ARBA is well aware of the effects of Raging Rabbitosis (although they speak of it only behind closed doors) and know that despite your best intentions to stay with only one breed, chances are you will eventually succumb and start collecting rabbits of various varieties.

My understanding is...ARBA owns the Copy write to the SOP. I also believe that they are very protective of that copy write. Even the breed clubs cannot use Word for word copies of it...(which seems strange to me...one would think the breed club that came up with the standard would have first claim to it...) Most breed clubs have articles 'discussing' the standard and some are superior in those discussions. You might want to check the web site for Your breed.
The SOP has a lot of other information in it... it would not be a waste of money to purchase it.

They probably conspire to feed and encourage Raging Rabbitosis! Which, BTW, has infected my mother and myself. Especially Mother...if she'd taken money with her to the show on Saturday we'd have come home with multiple rabbits in tow...

Okay, ya'll have convinced me...I will purchase the SOP...sigh...why fight it? I've been absorbed...no use in fighting...

It seems that your family has contracted a very virulent form of RR, so it is best to just accept it with good grace.

I bought my SOP at a show- you may find that a vendor has copies for sale at your next show.

On page 16 of the SOP it says that all standards become the property of the ARBA and will be copyrighted. I do agree there is a lot of very useful info in it other than the breed standards and spreading the cost out over 5 years it is reasonable.

Since I don't show, I think the only reason I would purchase a copy of the SOP is so that I can be somewhat knowledgeable when I sell rabbits. One of my three breeds isn't even recognized by ARBA (and hopefully never will be).

Trust all of us when we tell you that you will never regret having a copy of it, but chances are very good that you'll find yourself wishing you did if you fail to get a copy of it.

They change and add breeds and colors.i dont have the new one.As far as i know the dwarf standard has not changed.

Curlysue, I'll guarantee you that the Satin standard changed, and it wasn't just some generic stuff for new varieties, either.

If I were a betting man, I'd wager dollars to donuts that Satins weren't the only ones to see changes.
