I want a blue or lilac Lionhead. I'm guessing I am going to have to add one to my heard, but curious if I could breed one from my current stock or from breeding back. Some of the color I have gotten from the buck and first 2 does are Siamese sable, chestnut, broken black tort, broken brown tort, fawn/orange, REW, black. The third doe is due with her first litter from this buck so not sure what colors they will produce. If it is even possible, I'm unsure of what color kits to hold back.

All I know is that blue is the dilute of black, so I would keep the black back for breeding.

__________ Sat May 11, 2013 10:59 am __________

Oh- and lilac is the dilute of chocolate. :)

broken brown tort
I am not familiar with this colour, do you mean chocolate tort? If so then the parents of this kit must carry the chocolate gene which when coupled with the dilute/blue will produce lilac.

Do you know the colour of your breeding stocks parents? And posting pictures of all the offspring will help determine if any are dilute or chocolate.

Unless you know behind one of those rabbits there is a chocolate or a lilac, the more recent the better, chances are slim to none. Its a shot in the dark to see if they carry it. Just by looking at what's there, doesn't seem like it though. IF the one that's being called a broken brown tort is in deed a chocolate tort, its as Dood noted. However, I've found it very very hard to get any thing but more chocolate torts from such :/ Tort seems to run over every thing here.

It looks like some of your buns have/show the vienna gene though, this can mess with eye color on any color but having it in a chocolate line can be even more troubling, least from my personal experience with finding it in a Chocolate Mini Rex breeding I'd done, chocolate was goal and I ended up with vm chocolates and I didn't even know there was a possibility of it (not noted any where on the pedigrees sadly)...can give ruby cast to those that show blue eyed color and do funky things with chocolate's eye color.

Second more pictures of all would help :)

I get my colors mixed up, the broken brown tort is in the first picture. Probably a fawn orange color and not a chocolate. What is the correct name? Here are all 13 of the 2 does offspring. I have no information on the parents of my stock.

These 3 are different than the above 3, but are same colors

It doesn't look like you have dilute in your breeding stock so you will need to purchase one.

Self blues can be rare but around here blue points and smoke pearls are more common in lionheads. Both colours carry the blue dilution and can be used to get it into your stock. The first generation will be carriers and when you breed one of these kits back to the blue parent you should get 50% blue, what kind of blue (ie blue agouti, blue self, blue shaded AKA smoke pearl, blue point etc...) depends on the parents genes.

The rabbit in third picture looks like a Siamese sable, I assume this has been discussed on another thread and chocolate was ruled out.

Yeah Siamese Sable. Oh well I guess this will give me another reason to buy a rabbit in the future lol
