I want to use this cage for the rabbits, and am trying to decide which purpose would suit best. It is 7' long, 3' deep, and 4' high. I am going to add shelves to utilize the vertical space. There is plenty of room inside for us to climb in to play with the bunnies.
As I see it, my options are:
Exercise pen
Grow out pen
2 doe colony
Divide in two making 2 large cages for does with kits leaving the nest
What Queenpup and I really want to do is put Evil Blue and Mysterious in there (divided or together) so we can hopefully turn Evil Blue into Sweet Blue. However, both does are on day 28 as of today, and this will be their first kindling. I am worried a move might add too much stress to an already stressful event.
If I do divide the cage for use when kits begin to leave the nest, should I do so in a way to prevent the kits from mingling? My primary concern is aggression from a doe toward a kit that is not hers, keeping in mind that my rabbits are not colony raised.
Thoughts and suggestions eagerly awaited!
View of the wire; the door has 1/2"x 1" "floor wire", the rest is 1/2"x 3".

The cage is located in the yard that houses our small livestock. The chicken coop is on the left, cat coop behind that, cage on right end of cat coop, with the shelter for our pregnant mare behind. (Trash truck not to scale! )

Looking the other way: sheds, bunnybarn, cage near right.

In the twelve years we've lived here, we only recently had a raccoon come over the perimeter fence, and it did not make it into this yard. It won't be bothering us again, either. Our wacko "Greenie" neighbors (more about them another time!) put in a seep for the deer and other wildlife which must have attracted it. It is about 300 yards distant, and the only other water is a pond about 3/4 of a mile away.
It appears that the general consensus is a grow out pen- Flurry and her kits will be delighted!
