So basically I want to brag and you all can join in with your lovelies.

I'm getting a bred senior doe in the next few days. She's gorgeous. According to the breeder, she has no missing/white toenails, white spots, or incorrect eye sheen. To me, she looks pretty dang good for a two-year-old senior. I am considering showing her. Thoughts on her overall quality and show potential? I mean, I planned on just getting her as a brood doe and I'm not an expert on American Sables, but from photos of show winners, she looks good for a rabbit her age.

Sort of brief explanation of this: I figured larger, more laid-back rabbits would be good for younger children's pets (with well-vetted parent) and Easter photos (I know three photographers and one has already asked, lucky me!). None of these would care if the kits are half Mini Rex, and I'd let them know the kits won't have Rex fur and only the smallest may be closer to 5-6 lb. I'll measure and calculate going by other breed kit weights and all, and be sure to inform them any kit could get up to be 10 lb. Also she could have larger kits for fryers down the road, bigger pinkies/small kits for reptile feed, etc. She could be bred to Astrex to boost the size or even to get shaded Rex rabbits. Not purebred technically, but American Sables are basically Rex without the Rex's namesake fur. I figure if it walks like a duck, it's a duck. Get a 75% Rex/25% American Sable with proper fur and all, and it's a Rex if you want to call it a Rex. Not able to be registered until later on, but could be used for brood or even showable even if they can't grand. -shrugs- Give me your thoughts but not ragings on any of that lol.

Now for the lovely picture the breeder gave me. She's going to pose her tomorrow for me, but from what I can see she's very beautiful in the least.

How exciting!

I know nothing about the Am Sables but she is very pretty! Congrats on your newest rabbit!

Thank you. :)

And IKR? I saw her and was like, "I must have this." Sort of a silly reaction, but I'd never seen an American Sable in my state before she was listed for sale by a breeder on this state-wide group I'm a part of. You just want to stare for a bit too long and then snuggle her. XD

Also, she's coming with cage, feeder, and waterer for $30. o.o I find it sad the breeder is selling out because of personal trouble, but at the same time I'm like, "Are you seriously serious?" -looks up heavenward- "Thanks!"

:D Yes, yes it is. I hadn't even thought of AmSabs as being one of my breeds, but then I saw her. It was like love at first sight.

She's bred to a decent buck, so I hope she'll have a buck kit that takes after her that I could keep. :) I'm just excited to potentially have her and her kits and the possibility of show. My MR are a WIP and all young, so I know they'll miss the show in Sept., but I might be able to take her. :D

Well I'm jealous , just got my sables two weeks ago none of them look that good.there slre could be a twin to your doe, so hopefully I'll have some pretty buns in the future

Thanks Cspr, hopefully I'll be able to figure out how to do that soon.I got mine two weeks ago from some a wonderful breeder in Iowa. One cal market buck, a seal buck, a seal doe and two sabel does I'm really looking foreward to working with them

Post pictures? Really easy. You can go to a place like tinypic, choose your file, pick the size (message board), download it onto the 'net, and the use the code that has around it. Put it in your post, and you're golden. :)

But oooh, pretty. :3 The Cal buck and seal doe, of course, will always produce sables, so you have that. And either buck will produce 50% sables with the sable does... And you probably know this, but I'm excited to find someone also wanting to raise the breed so I'm blabbing. -rolls eyes at self-

Thanks for the info Cspr I'll have to work on that and yes it is exciting to hear of another sable breeder mine willnot be ready till oct.I do have one doe in the group that's 5 months old so I may breed her to my standard chincilla buck in the near future .

You're very welcome. But, yes, exactly. They're fairly rare. The ALBC doesn't recognize them as threatened, but I've heard of the "threatened" Silver Fox all over here. o_O Anyway. XD

Well, they came from Chins, so I suppose breeding back won't cause any problems. -nods- Mind you, I hope to see some lovely full sables as comparison for my new doe. She's a bit too touch-shy to allow me to pose her for any photos, but she's due soon and she's in a new environment. Figure it'll take far longer for an adult to warm up than a kit. -shrugs- Just hope the stress won't mess with her supposed upcoming litter any.
