Normally, I care for rabbits first, chickens second in my morning routine. This morning, I decide to reverse that. That decision almost proved fatal for one baby bun. :x
As I walked up to the rabbit shed, I catch the sight of something black on the ground. I look closer and sure enough, it is a baby bunny! OMG! How did you get there!?! I thought it was dead at first but then it wiggled ever so slowly. So, I clutch it to my chest and do a quick check to be sure there aren’t any others on the ground. Then, quickly run into the house to Mom. “Mom, tuck this in your bra please!” I leave her sitting in the recliner, clutching her chest praying over a 4 day old bunny. Stop to turn on the dryer, then back out to do bunny count/check. The remaining seven are warm, fat, and sassy. Good. Run back in, put warmer bunny into the now-warm dryer. Back out to do remaining chores. Back to dryer to fetch bunny which is now almost fully warmed up and much more wiggly. Figure, it’s warm enough to go back to the box with it’s litter mates. Sigh of relief.
Figure it got pulled out of the nest due to failure to unlatch after nursing and then wiggled out. No, I don’t have baby-saver wire on my cages. I will with my next cage order! Learned my lesson! :bunnyhop: :bunnyhop:
