So, hubby decided that the new rabbit area needed more space  I DID tell him we needed to make it bigger...just saying. ;) Anyway, here is what he came up with...

We used chain, s-hooks, j-clips and stainless steel cable ties to attach it.

It ended up a little off center since the other cages are not quite in the middle of the shed.

I will need to move the door on the cage on the right, which is fine, since I want to make it bigger anyway.

It seems really sturdy, I just need to put a cover over to provide shade in the afternoon, since it faces west.

Here is a close up of the join using stainless steel and plastic cable ties. I will also need to put some kind of urine guard to keep the does from peeing on the bucks in there. And we are going to put a second row of cages in the front only, with slant board in between, for grow out cages.

Hubby gets a thumbs up :goodjob: for creativity, and great thinking! If he's like my husband, sometimes, it just has to be his idea, or he doesn't get it.

I doesn't look like anything I would do!
I would probably build a duplicate of the
original and place it across from and facing
with enough space to leave an aisle between
where I would place boards/Plywood creating
a small barn effect. I hope I gave you some ideas.
Ottersatin. :eek:ldtimer:

I kind of have to agree with Otter! Definitely a thumbs up for creativity, but I am afraid the rabbits in the original structure will pee on the ones in the new cage. (It always comes out at an angle!)

Dennis,

Yes, that is what I wanted to do. But, for the moment, this will be ok. I plan on doing just that, duplicating it and having an aisle down the middle. Right now hubby's time is at a premium, he is finishing his PhD.

Yep, I am sure they will, :D that is why I mentioned putting urine guards on the top cages and something to block that side that is facing the inside.

__________ Mon Sep 26, 2011 6:55 pm __________

That's my concern too. It looks like a great idea, but someone's gonna get peed on.

Once I put the other row in underneath, there will be slant board to channel most of the urine so I am not too worried about it. In the meantime, I will probably put urine guards and some kind of barrier of that inside wall.

OneAcreFarm, I just love your pictures. I'm brand new to rabbits, and I feel as if I can get a very clear picture of the way you guys do things from your pictures. Thanks for sharing the images and the thoughts behind them (and their eventual modifications!).

Honeytree,

I am glad that you find them helpful. I know for me, a visual always helps!

when you build on a slant like that...how on earth do you cut the wire?

can I see a close up picture? I like the slant opening, seems like it would work well, but just wondering what it would mean in practical experience for cutting.

Here is a link to the blog where I got the idea....

There are details about how to cut and put together there...

I am fast running out of room too. Thanks for posting the plans and chain idea. This may work for our outside addition next Spring. I can see one deep angled out from under the eve of our barn. I think we would only have to extend the eve a bit and I could put a whole row of the angle topped cages along our barn .
.
