AAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! Aren't you supposed to breed 2 does at the same time so that if one kindles too many, you can foster to another doe??? Well what do you do when ONE HAD 15 AND THE OTHER HAD 13???!!!!!!!......So I fostered one to even them both out to 14 each. Let's see how many survive (I am NOT going to cull any, I just don't do that)....I am giving the does 2 tbsp of BOSS to supplement. I hope it's enough....last fall I had a litter of 13 and 9 survived....I will keep you all updated!.....oh this is so worrisome! They've taken the last of my saved-up rabbit fur.

Someone suggested splitting the litters in 2 and doing separate feedings...has anyone here done this? Was it successful? Please tell me about your experiences. I would love to save as many as possible here. Thanks!!

Really cute babies! My neighbor got 3 white babies and 2 black babies, they're New Zealand. Both parents are black. How would they get 3 white babies out of 2 black parents?

 Why won't my doe give me any babies.

I have split a litter before. The way I did it was after their first night nursing I divided them into the smaller kits in one box, larger in another. Kept both boxes in my house in the guest bathroom. In the morning I put the smaller kits in with mom while I did chores, then took them away from mom and back into the house. In the evening I put the bigger kits' box in with mom while I did chores, then back to the house when I was done. They were fine. I feed a natural diet so I had to really up mom's food to prevent her from becoming bones and fur. Hope this helps. I know there are a number of prior posts from people with a lot more experience and years of doing this than I but am too foggy right now to remember detaills.

That is very impressive. I never get tired of seeing large litters. I breed small rabbits and the largest surviving litter I have had is 6

White can be carried by any color except seal. It is a separate gene from black and most other common colors. It's actually part of the chinchilla/shaded gene set.

We had some checkered x NZ who regularly raised 12-14 kits. They never had much of a problem. Our record is a 20 kit litter but they all died. The doe was in colony and stuck them in the dirtiest, dampest spot she could find at the beginning of winter. We tried to warm them up and make a new nest but they froze before she fed them.

That is wonderful, Congratulations! If you have some on hand, there are some herbs that you can give for increasing milk supply - dandelion, goats rue, raspberry leaf, lemon balm, dill, fennel, and 2 T of OACV per gallon of water also helps. You might already be doing this since you're doing natural feed, but I thought I would throw it out there.

Nettle (urtica dioica) is a valuable convalescent and fattener
Milk Thistle (small amount) is good for healing and "female complaints"

Not sure if the OP is doing natural feeding--that was me that threw that in there.

Ah, sorry! Long long day yesterday!

Congrats on the babies! I hope they all pull through. Must be in the air...after 2 years or very close to 2 years now, have to sit and think on that one lol, I've finally got babies. 2 does I didn't think were bred, and told the one I was going to eat her if I didn't get babies this time to boot! I was hoping to foster to even out the load cause the one is a small doe, but well 7, 7, and 8 later...no hope of that lol o_O
