I was thinking I would contact the 4-H rabbit club to see if I could hire one of the older kids to help with rabbit chores while I'm on vacation. So I got voicemail...I get the feeling that I may be getting into something....I don't want to be a 4-H leader, but I wouldn't mind helping with the club in a lesser capacity. Maybe I could give a demonstration on Angoras....do I know enough about rabbits to help kids? I dunno.

Owlsfriend, the most important phrase you might use would be, "I don't know for sure, let's do some research together."

I find once you point them in the right direction, they will take it and run with it! :p

As I suspected there is no rabbit group because they have no interested adult...they are sending me application materials and training information. I can have the group meet as often or seldom as I want....what have I done?

You are paying it forward :D It will probably be very rewarding very quickly!

Compared to half the leaders, if you know ANYTHING, you are a freaking genius....

if you have the time, Go for it. you will learn more from the kids than you would expect.
use to teach bee keeping to 4-H kids. I never allowed them to go into a live hive. I used a hive void of bees
but with every thing else. the kids had a blast and so did I.
I have thought about seeing if the club where I now lives deals with rabbits.
Good Luck I hope you join in with them, you will be making a positive impact that will last them a life time.

I agree with cwd I am a 4h archery coach we have 15 kids from 9 to15 that we coach in shooting sports about 9 months of the year getting to be around these wonderful children is one of my favorite things to do I feel like I get more from it than they do.

Good for you Owl the kids need a leader. It does not matter that you know a lot. You are willing to learn and that is a start. I was the 4-H goat leader for a few years and am now assistant dog leader. Have fun.
