Hi, I am really new on here and fairly new to rabbit breeding. Yes, I am one of those that thought they had 3 females and ended up with a surprise litter!
After the surprise litter, we discovered that she was indeed bred again as well as the other doe.
The two new litters, we have only 1 that survived out of 19 total. My husband had given cabbage to the mammas not knowing it would kill the babies due to bloat :-(
Anyway, we figured we had a little time to get the 2nd doe (oreo) out from the buck since she was already pregnant.
Well, stupid us...we thought, ok if we see pulled fur, then we know to get her out before the babies are born...too late, they were in the nest.
So, we took the babies out and put them inside with the mama, they died off 1 by 1 until we had 4 strong survivors that we found all suffocated by the mamma at 15 days old.
Now, we have 1 doe with mamma and 1 doe by herself who was bred right after kindling.
According to the day we found the babies in the next, it is 38 days gestation. She is crabby, tries to nip, we made a next box and put it in at 27 days, she pulled fur and put in the box, but has not had any babies....she drinks 24oz plus every day, she eats a ton of food, I can see the mounds in her moving around, but why is she not going into labor?
I put her back with the buck to see if she would reject him and she did, she ran and wouldn't let him within an inch.
The other doe kindled at 30 days....
What can I do naturally to get things moving along?
She is in a xl plastic dog crate with a nesting box in my sunroom...not too cold, not too hot....same place the other one kindled.

-- Tue Mar 25, 2014 12:29 pm --

Ok, so we are on day 39, and no babies....
I have given her a Tums to see if the added calcium would help...we shall see when i get home from work (fingers crossed)

Still no babies, I can still see them moving and feel them. I cleaned her pen and nest box. I put the pulled hair back in the nest box with fresh straw. I gave her more tums. ...

Any and all advise is welcome. She is large new zeland and so is buck. Both about 1 yr old. Other does is like clockwork. ..28 days..... but this one, :x

Any lavender on hand?

Try breeding her back tot he buck again, even if you have to hold and lift her. 38 days isn't the longest we have on record here ;) . My does usually go 32-36 days.

40 days and still no bunnies this am either.
I will get some lavender today...
I had let her run about with my other doe a few days ago and she was going crazy mounting her....after that she has some blood around her vent, I thought maybe her little dominance episode would push her into kindling, but no.
I will try with the buck again tonight.

Well, still no babies....when I got home last night, she didn't want to eat and was panting heavily...
I bough some fresh parsley last night and gave to her....she ate that, but no babies this am...

she took her food bowl and put it in the nest box and made what looks like a nest in the front of the cage, without hair.
Since the bottom of the cage isn't wire, just hard plastic with newspaper and straw, should I take the nest box out since she didn't kindle in one before?
Thinking she wants the box out.... :?

 I am dying to know! Did she kindle yet?!?!?

The learning curve can be *so* traumatic. When I was a teen, my family had rabbits and we had *no* *clue,* and lost several litters. :(

So, I gave in to the idea that it was a phantom pregnancy...although I do believe she may have kindled and consumed the evidence. On Saturday after our shopping trip, she had dried blood on her nose and was much thinner....
So, on Sunday, I put her and the Buck back together and she was re-bred at least 3 times...I figured she would either have contractions to push anything else out, or she would be having new kits in hopefully 28-32 days.
So unfortunately she did not have any live kits, but her new hutch is being built...so maybe she will be happier and more at ease so these will survive....keeping fingers crossed.
March 30th bred.
Thank you for all the support and keep it coming, we are now in waiting....again
