I'm getting worried now...Sophie aborted at least 1 kit on day 22, and has at least three full-sized still kits in her now, but she hasn't nested or kindled. :( She ate a tums the other day, and was perfectly willing to be rebred by the buck today...hoping maybe that gets her going.
At this point, I'm not even expecting live kits anymore - I just want them out of her. She doesn't seem at all bothered by it, though. This blows. I hope they don't stay in there forever and render her infertile. :( Maybe it's fate telling me I can't afford another bunny project.

What's the longest you've had or heard of a doe hanging onto a litter?

I've seen something about some rabbits going 40 days or so?
You should be able to feel the kits moving in there, if you can put your hand on her belly while she's quiet for a minute or so. My doe was perfectly willing to be bred up until she had her litter (I didn't know she was pregnant). I'd say just give her time. I don't think there is much more you can do.

If she were a dog I would say take her to the vet and have her checked out. But since rabbits are so sensitive that might cause more trouble for her. :x Sorry I can't be much help.

Susie570 got a point relax and wait. Best of luck. :grouphug2:

I'd say leave her be and see what happens. She'll pop them out when she's ready! has she started hay-stashing? is her belly hard? she may have not took and the rebreeding will ether help her deliver or breed her...

:eek:verreaction: WAIT? What is this WAIT you speak of?

Sophie has at least three kits in her. I haven't felt them move in a few days, though, but I see her belly moving gently when she lays.

lol! that movement could have been gas. mark your calender and see what happens!

Yeah, that's what I thought too, 'cause none of it was really "kicking"...except maybe once or twice :? but most of the time, no kickers. Just slight rolling.

I've seen my rabbit's belly making a rolling, wave-like motion when they're laying still. That's not kits, just their digestion. If there are kits in there, you should DEFINITELY be able to feel them well by now. You can put one hand on either side of her belly and gently push one of the hands toward the other. If you just put light pressure on her belly and stay there for a while, you should be able to feel a few kicks and movement. If you don't feel the kits, she may have only been carrying one and aborted.

Yes, I have palpated her - that's how I know she's got at least three kits. They're full size babies, but either they've been asleep the past few times I've felt her, or they've died. :(

Lavender buds, fresh or dried, are said to help a doe expel the contents of her uterus. If you get to the point where this becomes more important than the welfare of possible kits, I would not hesitate to give her some. It will not harm the doe but I don't know the effects on the kits.

If she does not bear living kits but begins to lactate, mint leaves, sage or even catnip will help dry her up. Mint and sage are more palatable to rabbits than catnip and are good greens for dry does and bucks.

If nothing's happened in the next couple days, I think I might end up going with that rather than the "wait and see" route...I'd rather they get out of her before they, I 'unno, mummified? :x
Where might I find lavender? Some certain aisle in the grocery store? I think there's an odd natural herbal remedy shop right in town...I wonder if there'd be any there. :?

Any plant nursery should have lavender plants..I have started growing the bunny plants..that way you have them on hand..
Hopefully you won't need it and you will have a nest full of popping kits.. :hex: :hex: :hex: :clover: :clover:

Still nothing! :weep: This is insane!
I haven't got any lavender yet, but I wonder how much to give her? A spoonful? Handful? Free-choice?

I'd have a bunny garden, but it seems most plants require full sun, and that's pretty much impossible in a forest. :(

Nyctra, call around and you should be able to find dried lavender buds at least. It's the buds you want, as far as I know, not the leaves. A health food/herb shop should be able to supply them . . . and who knows, sometimes at nurseries you can find herbs already in flower.

If dried, I would likely offer her a teaspoon of the buds for starters and see if that is effective. If fresh, just give her a few of the flower stems.

Please note that I have never used lavender for this purpose. It's been in my garden bed for a dozen years or more, but there has never been a situation with my rabbits that warranted its use.
