The last few days were a scramble, to get the old nesting tunnels off, a new Buck cage made and new nesting boxes for the pregnant Does. We were cutting it close, but today the nesting box went in with Cinnamon in The Buck's hut, (we had moved him out) to a new cage and within hours she was kindling......I didn't think she was going to take to the nesting box, she kept trying to build her nest out on the wire? I kept scooping up her nest and placing it in the box, and placing her in there too..... Finally she gave up and just had them in the box :) After she was all done she came out for a snak and this time I carefully ck'd the entire box well. 6 live kits were found! WOW, much easier in the box.....nice and neat like a little package  I researched how to keep ants from climbing poles and the concensus was....VASELINE, so I coated the leg bottoms with Vaseline and cleaned up all around. She was bloody when she first came out....can I assume that is normal and from the afterbirth,,,,it was on her paws....Anything else I should keep an eye for????? I am so happy to have a second chance so quickly after Oreo's ordeal......Pictures to come soon....

Congrats! Silly wabbits trying to give birth on the wire. Glad you were able to help her!

So glad this litter is going better! Just check the kits daily. Make sure they are being fed.

And enjoy the popples!!

I checked them this morning......OK so these babies are different than the last ones....as soon as I moved the hair away they starting popping all over...THAT is crazy. First the Buck faints, and now the babies POP,,,,Our God sure does have a sense of humor.....There are seven kits....all were fed and are robust for being just 24 hours old... Buck is a large red NZ, and the Doe's name is Cinnamon, a mix with I'm assuming Dutch? She is a patchy brown and white..... Just curious...what colors you think the kits may be? I'm not breeding for show, so it doesn't matter, but after reading a bit on colors and genetics....it is pretty interesting... Here's some pictures of the Buck, Doe and Popples!

LOL :congratulations: on getting everything done in time!!! Yes, those kits look like they have nice little milk bellies! As for colors, well, it looks like you have at least one black dutch marked one LOL

When the litter is furred out, if you can lay the kits on a towel, we can give you a better idea of color ... right now, we/you don't have enough info to state for certain.

The doe is chocolate based, which is a rare color.
I traveled to the south of holland to pick up a chocolate and his lilac brother yesterday.. very lucky to have found them!

She is either dutch or vienna marked, probably dutch since dutch rabbits are often bred in chocolate color and vienna marked choco's are rare.
If she throws blue eyes, you will know that she is vienna.
the dutch gene doesn't throw blue eyes.

The buck is your average NZ, he is probably black based since all kits seem to be black.
50% of the kits will be marked like the mother.

@ Disney...thanks very much... She is brown eyed, I do have her sister though and she is a black and white broken with blue eyes....Thanks for the info....some of the babies appear to have brownish heads....we will see how they turn out.....
