The count is now 8, and the second litter is beginning to appear... Little brown ones!
The colony is 8'x14', built under large redwood trees for shade. It's bordered on two side with wood fence in the back with a 2' retaining wall in the front. The rabbits are making their burrows under the trees in the roots. So far we've counted 3 burrows, one for each doe. (Picture below.) We initially had a problem with them digging under the retaining wall, but we armored with concrete and wire.
We built low 6" decks that the rabbits like to hide under, as well as start their burrows from.
We have a separate hutch inside the colony for the buck so he can keep in touch with the rest. The does hang out under the buck hutch and also have started two burrows from there.
So far it's been a successful set-up, but we'll see how we like it one all the babies emerge and there are 20+ rabbits in that size area.
