I'm interested to hear how this went and all of the steps to your process. I'm harvesting today and planning on either freezing the hides or placing them in salt, with the intention to follow a process similar to what you described, since I have plenty of homemade soap.

That's one I can't help with - my mama bunny lets papa give it several goes before she ambles over to the door to let me know she's ready to be done with him :p But I also don't breed her until I've harvested her kits, since I don't have enough cage space to handle more than one litter at a time.

I made the mistake of starting out with rabbits from a farmer friend who was raising them but not paying much attention to the genetics. Mama bunny (supposedly Rex) turned out to be an incredible super-mama, so we got lucky there. But papa bunny (supposedly Silver Fox) had serious dental issues...

I'm raising meat rabbits now, but I'm a knitter so I imagine raising angora in the future, maybe after retirement :p Have you raised non-angora rabbits? I'd love to hear about the major differences in the care required.

So far the only time I've dealt with eye infections was when I had 3-4 ~10 week old rabbits together in a big cage. Sometimes they'd fight or even just injure one another running around and doing binkies. That was my first litter, and now I'm only putting 2 per cage from the start to try to...

I use Microcyn eyewash as needed, which seems to prevent infections from getting a hold at all. But I also have Terramycin on hand for when the eyewash doesn't cut it.

I haven't noticed that with anything that we feed them. They get all sorts of greens from the yard, including lots of herbs, but I'm not sure that it changes the flavor of the meat at all. They just enjoy snacking on them!

My rabbits love all parts of the hop plants we give them!

Hi all, I needed to cull our initial breeding buck because of genetic teeth issues, so I did that today. It's the first time I slaughtered a rabbit in 10+ years (and only my 2nd time altogether!). I of course hadn't planned on culling him when I got him, so I had become a bit attached to him...

Thanks for sharing this. This weekend I need to cull papa bunny, whose teeth problems are insolvable. Since I was expecting to have him around for a while, I had bonded with him in a way that's going to make it tough. I've had some anxiety about it all week, but it helps knowing that other folks...
