    Confusing color

She did look like chocolate to start with but now she is a kinda yucky light brownish color - wouldn't call it chocolate but don't know what else it could be. Do you know what the buck's non-extension or wide band would do to a chocolate?

    Confusing color

This bunny came from a black self chin doe & orange buck. I'm confused as to what color it is or could be. Orange buck might carry himi.

    Well, that was different!

I've used the rat zapper primarily for the ground squirrels. They're a real problem when they tunnel under your barn/house/shed and get up in the walls and chew the electrical wires. I've never had a problem as long as I clean the the plate occasionally. Had them for probably 8 years now...

    Well, that was different!

Maggie - get an electronic rat trap. No squealing, no blood, no guts - just dump the dead rat out & reset. Don't even need to touch the rat. After I found an unattached rat arm in my snap trap that had been chewed off, with a trail of blood, that was the last time I used a snap trap. I hated...

    Non-extension gene

Thanks so much - that is very interesting! Looks like it still has a black strip near the head but the ears are gray. I never would have guessed that.

    Non-extension gene

What effect would non-extension (ee) have on a himalayan? Would it be noticeable? Would it change the color of the points on a black himi to more of a chocolate himi?

    Proper pedigree with c genes

Alforddm - that's just beautiful!!! I guess the reason people don't write them correctly on the internet is that none of us are as computer-proficient as you. I wouldn't even know where to start. LOL

    Proper pedigree with c genes

What is the correct way to write the lower "c" genetics for a pedigree? I have one that is written cchlcchl and another is cchlc which I think is kinda hard to read at a glance. Is it still correct to just write them chlchl and chlc without the extra "c"?

    Orange crosses

Love your "chalkboard" idea. You make perfect sense with the A B C D with or without extension. That's an easy way to think of it.

    Orange crosses

Thanks! I love that site. It's very helpful. I am fascinated by the genetics, but am clearly struggling to understand. Yes, I have the pedigrees. They have a large mixture of colors that I can't sort out. Not sure if it's OK to send pedigrees with rabbitry names on them without permission...

    Orange crosses

My black with the orange was chin, black (self chin?) and chocolate. So I'm not understanding why all the kits should have been chestnut - if the orange had an "a" and the black was self black (or self chin), then I would get this mixture with a chocolate thrown in, right? One of them also has...

    Orange crosses

The breed is Netherland Dwarf. So if I cross orange and black, the kits would, by necessity, get at least one e from the orange. Would Ee in the kits result in a less-than perfect black?

    Orange crosses

A (dumb) question about Orange. What are the best crosses for orange? Should it be kept separate from the other color groups? If so, is that because the ee messes up the other colors or is it the rufus factor? If I cross orange with black, will the red color affect my black kits? I have...

Are all C genes incompletely dominant?

Here she is - she almost looks dark chocolate here in the sun. Parents were Lynx & REW. Surprise!

Are all C genes incompletely dominant?

Thanks! I'd send you a nice hot cup of coffee if I could! So do you think the c or ch will actually lighten the chins or shaded? I see the shaded/himi cross in pedigrees, but what about the resulting himi's from that cross? Are they darkened by crossing with a shaded or chin?

Are all C genes incompletely dominant?

I read that crossing with REW or himi will lighten a shaded. Will a ch or c also lighten a black or chocolate? What would make my self black's coat have a brownish cast? Is it the b or one of the c genes? Or?

What colors are these siblings, please?

Gosh, I have so much to learn. So the white himi has little face color and if I bred her to a smoke pearl, I would be hoping to improve that? Or would I be hoping for a nice shaded kit instead? I don't know how to improve my girl's lack of face color. Would it be better to breed her to...

What colors are these siblings, please?

Oh, thanks. I think the one on the right might be black silver marten. She's darker than the photo shows. She couldn't be seal because the self chin and blue otter wouldn't have two copies of chl to give her if they've produced a himi, right? I'm just getting started and have never had a...

What colors are these siblings, please?

I'm struggling with color genetics and would appreciate some help identifying the color of these little bunnies from a "rainbow breeder". Their mom is black self-chin with Lynx, Fawn, Cinnamon, Self Chin, REW, Black Otter, Siamese Sable, Chestnut and Broken Orange on her pedigree. Their dad...
