Stunted Growth if Bred Before Full Maturity

Thank you for the replies. I'll be interested to see how big her kits get when she kindles as well as how many she has and can successfully wean. I'm going to wait until both other bucks and the satin doe are well over 6 months old before I breed them.

Stunted Growth if Bred Before Full Maturity

My question: Can a doe’s growth be stunted if she is bred before reaching full maturity? My reason for asking such a question: I asked the breeder I purchased my Satin doe from if she could breed the doe beforehand. She told me she could, but has noticed in her herd that does she has bred...

    Finding Rabbit Breeders

No, I’m not showing. Focusing on meat production for my family, but wanted a little more variety.

    Finding Rabbit Breeders

Well, I got a pair of beautiful NZ Reds. They aren’t pedigreed and honestly, after looking at the ARBA standard, I have no idea if they are good or not. The doe is around a year and a half old and is just over 9 pounds. The little buck is about 16 weeks old and is a little over 4 pounds. They...

What does the buck contribute to his progeny?

Thank you, Preitler. Make sense to me.

What does the buck contribute to his progeny?

    Sorry. Offspring or descendants.

What does the buck contribute to his progeny?

Hey gang, When breeding rabbits, what attributes does the buck usually pass on to it's progeny? Is there a general rule or is it pretty much dependant on the individuals themselves and how the biology arranges things? For example, I have the opportunity to get a rabbit that is 50% satin, 25%...

    Finding Rabbit Breeders

Thank you, Stoney! I actually found homestead today and messaged around seven breeders that are within four hours of me. I’ve heard back from two and am probably headed to west Georgia this weekend to pick up a buck and a doe.

    Finding Rabbit Breeders

Thank you all for the helpful responses. I’m interested in NZ and silver fox primarily, but also intrigued by Rex and satins. I’ll be focusing on breeding for meat production, but am not opposed to pretty colors either. I followed your suggestions and checked ARBA, Craigslist and a couple of...

    Finding Rabbit Breeders

I've almost got my rabbitry complete and ready for move in, but I'm having a hard time finding breeders close enough to travel to. I've texted and emailed a few different breeders that I found contact info for on different websites, but have gotten no replies. It seems a lot of the information...

Here is the video that got me interested in learning about harvesting and using rabbit urine:

You dilute and spray on the plants. I’ll try to find the link to the video I learned that from.

    Back in the game...

Thank you Maggie J. I'd like to work it out were my herd will be able to still get good weights being fed minimal pellets, which would mean that most of there diet would be what we can forage from the yard/garden. I think pelleted feed will become increasingly expensive and hard to come by in...

    Back in the game...

The good news is the six left at home love the farm life. We raised hogs last fall and they loved taking care of them and then eating them once they were processed. They also love to hunt and eat game, esp. squirrel. So I don't forsee the same issue this time.

    Back in the game...

I plan to get a NZ buck and two NZ does to start with. I'm leaning toward also getting a Rex buck to cross.

    Back in the game...

Hello everyone! I've been a member of RT since 2011. Got my first trio of NZs from GBov and raised several litters, but got out of the meat rabbit game when my oldest daughter wouldn't eat rabbit meat. Well, she's grown and out on her own now, and with groceries getting so expensive, I'm trying...

We have our first bunny emergency

We have a 7 week old kit that has lost the use of it's back legs. It's been on grass. There is foul smelling feces stuck to its fur. It escaped the tractor yesterday so right now my only guesses are it either got frightened and broke it's back or it ate something poisonous. The other for kits...

    So yours are still nursing?

    5 week weights

Thanks Zass. I weighed them today since today was pasture day. The weights ranged from 2 lbs. 5 oz. to 1 lb. 14 oz. With only the one weighing less than 2 lbs, so they've grown approximately 8-10 oz in a week. They eat mostly bahaia grass and wild briars (fed morning and evening) and about 9-12...

    5 week weights

Thanks for the reply, Jessica. I was beginning to think no one would answer. I'm sorry your reds aren't gaining. I love reds, but I've heard that they don't gain as fast. My buck is red and I bred him to our REW doe on July 1st so we'll see what we get. I'm surprised the black kits are gaining...
