Who's sterile? young buck or old does?

No they havent,I rebred them when their previous litters were weaned at 6 weeks. I hadn't had them for long, the does I got back in September

-- Sat Feb 18, 2017 10:48 pm --

I wonder if they've just gotten a bit over weight since I got them and that's what's causing it...

Who's sterile? young buck or old does?

I have a fresh doe I'll put him to. At first I thought it must be the does after the first failed attempts but at this point I'm worried it might be the buck.

Who's sterile? young buck or old does?

Buck is 11 months, very healthy and happy, it's been winter so I know it's not heat sterility. The 2 does I'm not sure of their ages, but I suspect their getting old. 1 doe has been bred 3 times to the buck to no avail, the other doe had a successful litter (8 kits) from him once, but her second...

Help Me! Breeder Has No Clue When This Doe is Bred?!

The same exact thing happened to me haha. It was a silver fox too. I made the mistake of going off my palpation skills and lost one kit on the wire because of it, but saved the rest of them. Let's just say I'll never trust my ability to palpate again and if I don't know if they have or haven't...

    advice appreciated for sick/injured kit

I just don't get it. All of them were happy and bouncy the other day and now I have this sad thing. The remaining kits all seem fine, so I'm thinking maybe the doe trampled and paralyzed it somehow. I've never lost a kit this old, so I'm flabbergasted. It's different when it's a hairless one...

    advice appreciated for sick/injured kit

Found one of the kits (4 weeks old) lying motionless on cage, at first I thought it was dead buy it's still breathing. One eye is a little goopy, and it'll twitch if I pet it, but it won't sit up or move at all. I can only get it to eat by syringes, but it laps it up and acts like it wants to...

    cold weather success story

So impressed by my rabbits I had to share with other rabbit people, since there are none others in my town. The temperature here in Montana dropped from 5 to 25 below 0 overnight, I went out expecting my newest batch of babies to be frozen. bit of trouble with this batch, their mom got spooked...

questions about the size of my meat mutts

Sorry, correction, they eat mostly grass hay, they also get greens from the garden, clean veggie scraps, amd pellets now and then. The other rabbits I've got rhat aren't infested eat the hay no problem. I'm thinking your right about parasites. Sad as it is, I'm thinking they all have to go. Is...

questions about the size of my meat mutts

I can't imagine why they're all so small though. Unless I was so unlucky to get every runty rabbit those people had to offer. It's just frustrating that all 3 are no good for breeding. I'm hoping some calf manna will get them up to butchering size so they're not a complete waste of money <br...

questions about the size of my meat mutts

Well I'm resolved now to just try to get them up to butchering size, and pick new breeding stock out of my older rabbits, a silverfox buck and doe and a Californian doe. Do you think the nz/satin buck would be ok to try to keep as breeding stock? Or no because he's not growing to size fast enough?

questions about the size of my meat mutts

I got 3 meat mutts from someone who's been doing meat rabbits for awhile now, but I'm a little concerned about their sizes. The does I have are 4 and 5 months old, respectively, but I don't think they weigh much more than 5 pounds. They told me the younger one is a new zealand, but she's a...

    advice on breeding my buck?

Thanks for the advice, I know that the doe was really in heat since I checked her vent, but I'm just thinking she needs the "ahem" firm hand from my older buck. I'll give my little guy a break until my other nicer doe is ready after she has her babies. He's basically the nicest friendliest...

    advice on breeding my buck?

It was breeding day today, and my young bucks turn to pop his man cherry. We put an older doe in with him, amd she was quite ready, kept humping his face and chasing him around. He did cover her 3 times, but he didn't quite fall off, just slumped over a little bit. After that she continued to...

newbie mistake, bred an already pregnant doe

Just out of curiosity, is it a common thing for rabbits to spread having their kits out over a 24 hour span?

newbie mistake, bred an already pregnant doe

More great news, upon searching deeper in the box we officially have 5 newborn Silver Fox kits. We also have a Californian from this same woman, nest box in cage and is getting ready to deliver also. Thank you all so much for the helpful responses. We are very excited that everything is working...

newbie mistake, bred an already pregnant doe

Well woke up this morning to at least 4 kits in the nestbox, all alive and covered in fur, so much thanks to Maggie for advising a nestbox. I hope the breeding from the other week doesn't screw anything up, but I'll be prepared this time just in case it took, because I know about their 2 uteruses.

newbie mistake, bred an already pregnant doe

Ooh thanks, I threw a box in just now. Everyday I curse the woman we got these rabbits from. It was all 'I think they're this age, and I think they're both bred, and I don't remember when they did breed, oh and here's an extra baby the doe had with her, but i physically lost the other 5 in my...

newbie mistake, bred an already pregnant doe

So got this rabbit and the previous owner was unsure if they were bred or not, we palpated her 2 weeks after we got her, and didn't find anything, so we decided to breed her again. Well oops, turned out she was pregnant, amd found 1 dead kit in the cage this morning. Let's say I learned a...

    sprouting fodder advice please?

I did a little research and I think my next attempt I'll try planting a batch in a little potting soil, I saw that it worked for one person, and I'll also do a batch with just water and try watering it less and see if there's a difference there. If not, I'm gonna assume it's the seeds themselves
