    Lutino and blue/black colour series.

Dear Lauren, I'm going to build my lutino stud up using my reds first and foremost to preserve the genotype. Then I'll work on type and finally consider other colours but that's not a priority. There are so many netherland dwarf colours these days and all wonderful I'd want to keep them all!<br...

? about showing yet to be recognized breeds or varieties

I am really impressed with the chinchilla Dutch in the USA and set out to develop my own. I got a 'good hiding' from the British Rabbit Council' who made their feelings clear. It's not recognised so don't do it. This made me think who I breed my rabbits for and why. I do it for me. I enjoy it...

    Good Books on Color Genetics?

I didn't find any decent books on genetics and ended up doing a webserch. Plenty out there on the basics but not always easy to find the rarer or less popular genes. Hence, I joined this place!

Good breed for a small child?

I'd always go for Dutch for children. The Polish.......in the UK these animals are rather flighty.....

    Genetic Colors

Read a bit about English Spots. I'd go for a Charlie and cross with a solid....100% broken or two broken and get Charlie's, selfs and spots. Is a spotty New Zealand still a New Zealand? Over here, reds are very rare.

    California selling age

That's very young but possible, not that I'd ever take anything from a breeder who sells at that age. says more about the person selling.

Questions and comments about plant safety for rabbits.

I wonder if plant toxicity in relation to rabbits could be summarised.

    Selling newborns as pinkies/feeders

When I first got into rabbits a breeder told me she puts mismarked Dutch kits in the freezer and then bins them. A wasted opportunity. Apparently it's a nice way to die! May be she should try it! A friend breeds python and they start on young gerbils and move up very quickly. What I detest is...

Trying to get better broken paterns

GBov sounds like a good quest. I've been putting si on a netherland dwarf using a pure bred ND with a pure argente de champagne. First generation had 1 tiny silver but lacking type.....longish ears and nose. I see it as a fraction/percentage thing.....F3 look very very good but I'd still say...

    Lutino and blue/black colour series.

Dear skysthelimit, I absolutely agree with you re the dogs. I am in London and have boxers. My family in Houston also have them.....they look so different although their fun of life seems just as full as ours. Thank you for your comment. __________ Fri Jan 11, 2013 6:09 pm __________ Dear...

    Lutino and blue/black colour series.

Thank you Dood....I have 3 buck lutino netherland dwarves. Does were not being released and so I got hold of some very nice agouti does. This colour was recommended in developing the lutino. Since I also keep budgies and enjoy learning about genetics I wondered about the two colour series and...

    Lutino and blue/black colour series.

Is a lutino rabbit genotype equivalent to that found in the budgie? In the budgie we see the lutino in the green series and albino in the blue series! So, there is talk of the agouti being the ideal for improving the lutino, but whst of the blue and black selfs?
