    What are the odds?

I have a very non receptive SF doe I never even saw fall off with who ended up having 11 kits on day 37! She got right irritated around day 32 and was eating more so I stuck a nest box in and ALMOST took it out day 36 evening.. but got distracted. There was no nesting activity... next morning...

Questions for people who use a pellet pistol for dispatch please

Update, thank you everyone for support and suggestions! It certainly is not something I enjoy doing but I must say, in comparison to other methods, this feels the most idiot proof, kind and instant. I just finished putting 20 rabbits into my freezer after a salt brine of 3-5 days. Absolutely...

    Ear mite healing concerns

I feel your pain! I'd keep up with the oil for at least three weeks after you haven't seen any. Also one of the worst tempered does I ever saw became and stayed a sweet pet like animal after her first litter... Which came on day 42 and I thought in day 41 it's your third try madam freezer camp...

Questions for people who use a pellet pistol for dispatch please

I love netherlands! My first house bunny as a kid was a little brown ND named Buster, litter trained snuggle bunny. I dream of having a nice little house rabbit like him again one day!

silver box and beveren so slower growing breeds. I leave kits with mom until 8 weeks then take out the bucks and put in a grow out cage. I leave the girls with mom another few weeks and then move them on when I am sure doe is dry and the teenagers are starting to make her crazy. I try to do...

    Water setups

just a thought... i always use lixit 2l bottles in summer and rubber bowls in winter here, but last year for my hutch rabbits at home (as opposed to cage bank rabbits on the farm in a barn) I got winter heated water bottles. They are flip top and dead easy to fill. I just walk down the row...

So I have a very aggressive adult sf doe (a 12 lb beauty who acts like a beast) that has to go, heretofore I have always used a hopper popper (many many many times without incident or error) but it just won't work I can't even pick up the doe without her screaming let alone get her positioned in...

Using a Rabbit Wringer, Hopper Popper, etc

Lol that's what I do with the popper. Calm them by holding them close to me save this witch who just screams when she can't lunge bite and scratch! Move them into the popper purposeful and firm then grab the legs and pull hard and fast a few times. Trouble with this doe is no way I can get...

Using a Rabbit Wringer, Hopper Popper, etc

Yes, I was thinking of doing that with her, same method just different modality. I would know if I was successful and yup its still puling up and out by the back feet. Now I am trying to make sure I am coordinated, confident and smooth enough to pull it off using a stuffed bear. Any tips?

Using a Rabbit Wringer, Hopper Popper, etc

Thank you, that is encouraging. Now I just need to figure out how to get my wits about me and my confidence back. I find dispatch the worst part of raising food for my family and always want a quiet, quick and as kind of dispatch as possible. I feel it is the least I can do for them after a...

10 month old sf buck extremely hard to skin?

I mean this was crazy hard! Like hanging with all my body weight trying to pull the pelt off. So, if I have to cull older animals in future, woud hay only fast for a few weeks and maybe a full 24 hours of water only prior to dispatch maybe help to create some room?

10 month old sf buck extremely hard to skin?

I processed a very pretty silver fox buck yesterday that despite my best efforts was still a terrible personality. I literally broke the hook the gambrel was on trying to peel his pelt off. Thick skin like any mature buck. Well overfed lots of fat in the cavity and under skin. He had a few...

    The solution to wasted hay?

I use hay racks but still 90% of the top quality hay with premium pricetag ends up on the floor. Makes the barn look a total mess too. I'm curious if there is a solution

In general bucks tend to me more laid back and cuddly then does… that is why when people are looking for pets I always sell tgem a nice buckling. I insist they neuter by contract- this keeps bucky a good pet if that is his purpose and is a lot cheaper then a spay and aftercare is much lower...

Raising rabbits for an export market.

Another thing to consider is quail. Even less commitment and overhead then rabbits.
