    First and Sudden Death

I have no real idea about the death. But personally I'd keep a doe or two from the litters you already have. Buying a new animal and bring it into your herd could open a door for a disease to slip in. Just my thoughts, Cathy

    How pure is your poop?

I made one and if I use it I can get about 85/15. I keep the hay racks full. Usually filling once a day. :x They go through it like candy.

    cage height question

I used vinyl guttering and a sheet of vinyl tub surround for my waste system. I drilled holes in the gutter to allow the urine to drain away from the bunny berries. Then used a plastic pan from a pet rabbit cage to catch the berries. It also has holes in it to allow water and urine to leak...

    How pure is your poop?

I was bagging up some bunny berries and it got me to thinking: :? How pure is your bagged, ready for sell, bunny berries? I have been trying to get most of the hay/straw out of it, but am right at about 80/20 (poop/h&s). What are yall's thoughts?

    cage height question

Good call. I researched for over a year. Mainly because of health reasons but also there is a lot to figure out prior to bringing anything home. I don't know about 1''x1'' floor wire with rabbits. But only a more seasoned rabbit raiser could tell you about the pro and cons of that type of floor...

    The Perfect Breed??

 I don't like the look of lops, the smoshy faces ones, or dwarfs. And Woolies and angoras require too much time. I don't like brushing my dogs nevertheless livestock.  Do love the look of the Hotot, and the Belgian Hare. Both of which wouldn't be great meat breeds for my...

    cage height question

I have 2 does in cages that have doors that open on top and have to be held open by a piece of wire. Their nice because escape is more difficult, not impossible but harder. Have 2-3 latches per door. Opening size is 42''Lx12''W Have 2 buck and 1 doe in a cage that the door swings out. Nice...

    Dog hernia?

Hope your pups doing well. I place the cone of shame on my chug every so often because of allergies. His belly will break out and then gets worse because he licks and chews to stop the itching. They get a little weird but then move on. Our boxer on the other hand lost it when she saw the chug...

    The Perfect Breed??

Find a breeder that has these goals. And buy those rabbits. It's not the breed that truly matters as much as the breeder and how they developed their herd. Personally I like the commercial feed. It makes my life easier. I bought my rabbits from a very good breeder, who has the same goals as I do...

    cage height question

I raise NZWs, with does weighing between 9-11lbs. and the bucks about 8-10lbs. These are what my cages look like. One of these was made into a grow out pen. It was divided so each sided is 2'x2'x2'. Big enough for the short amount of time they'll be in there. Do have a does cage in this...

    The Perfect Breed??

For my setting, I knew that I needed a lazy productive breed. Don't trust my yard to allow free range rabbits.  So I went the tried and true NZ. But I was only looking at the meat production side of things. After having the AmChin/NZ I have fell in love with their fur. :P :lol...

    Dog hernia?

Licking and chewing can lead to this kind of damage. But like Dood said she needs to be kept calm. That might mean placing her in a bathroom away from all the fun or penning her up, and taking her out on a leash to potty. Is she wearing a cone of shame...

    Since it snowed?

Oh, also there are lovely little birds that like bunny for dinner too.  We have a couple different types of eagles and hawks too. They fly off with small dogs and med - large cats. Just a thought, Cathy

    Since it snowed?

Personally I wouldn't chance it. But we have a lot of wild game that come through our yard. Everything from rabbit to deer. And they can transmit disease to our yard. Plus, my rabbit don't like being out of their cage. But that's me.

    meat rabbit start up questions

I have 2 NZW does and 1 NZW/AmChin doe. The chin mix is very skittish and stresses easily. The other does not so much. I have 2NZW/Cal bucks and they love to have their head and ears scratched. I have read that cals can be skittish too. But haven't seen it in the 2 mixes I have.
