    New Dream Rabbit

We have three Cali's and have toyed with the idea of a good first cross. It would be Rex or Giant French Lop because I would like to improve even more on temperament. Please let us know what you get.

    Maiden doe not lifting

Another blank today unfortunately. She doesn't seem at all stressed, in fact we thought we'd give them a good hour under our supervision and they both laid out and went to sleep with just one failed attempt without a fall off. We checked the colour of her vulva afterwards and it was light pink...

    Maiden doe not lifting

It's possibly not a rabbit term, we used to breed pigs and I've carried it over from there by accident.

    Maiden doe not lifting

We did our first breeding yesterday with some success. One of our does Pixie was brilliant and we had 5 fall offs over two matings. Our other doe Fifi let's our buck lay on top of her but she won't lift and we had no fall offs. We tried again today with Fifi and she was more relaxed but still...

    Californian markings

Sorry this is in the wrong section, it should be in Breed Discussions.

    Californian markings

We're not keeping rabbits to show them but I'm still really interested in their quality as rabbits overall. Our buck Cheddar is here to do a job and as long as he works well, is good tempered and produces good kits I'm happy. However, over the past few months he has slowly developed colour...

    Hello from France

It seems pretty good here, the rabbit club of France keeps a register of breeders as you'd expect. The amateur rabbit breeding fraternity in this region is huge (compared to England) but the French are very particular about labelling things A baguette here can only be called a baguette if it...

    Hello from France

We only live about an hour and half away from a place called Felletin which holds the annual wool fair for France. If you love wool and wool products like we do it's the place to go and the place to sell your products. You can even buy Angora rabbits at the show along with sheep and alpacas! So...

    Navajo-Angora Goat kid

What a smashing little kid! We've never tried goats on account of them being supreme escape artists but I'd sorely tempted with a goat like that.

    A complimentary first cross breed?

I was pretty sure it wouldn't do me any favours meat rabbit wise. I was hoping it might improve on general disposition but above all before we bought our trio I asked my 12 year old granddaughter what her ideal rabbit would be and I got "A big cuddly white rabbit with floppy ears and blue...

    Hello from France

From my limited understanding, the age for finishing rabbits for fur here is more based on coat finish / lustre along with skin strength and resilience. Basically if you cull too young you end up with a more delicate and easily damaged pelt. I recently watched this Youtube piece comparing Cali...

    Managing Teeth

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I meant giving them the opportunity to keep their teeth down and avoid having a problem. I have read somewhere that rabbits need to be able to gnaw in order to keep their teeth growth in check. But that may have been utter rubbish?

    Managing Teeth

Our rabbits are still relatively young and don't have any teeth problems but I'd be interested to know how you manage your rabbits teeth condition. Our rabbits live in Spruce wood tractors which are pretty soft and get chewed here and there. We've also added a play block of Oak and a good solid...

    Hello from France

You're the sort of person who gets a man in trouble with his wife! I've already had the hard stare carefully combined with the don't you dare look for investigating other breeds and now you've thrown English Spots into the mix. :)

    Hello from France

I was seriously considering Rex for our start up Trio but my book "Raising Rabbits for Meat by Tiffany Simpson" rated them down from the Californian. What really interested me about them was obviously the colour patters and fur but also what it said about temperament. Are they really that good...

    Hello from France

Brilliant! Your answer and advice was still awesome but I did think to myself "Now where am I going to find a large spotted rabbit? Oh yeah... EVERYWHERE!!!

    Is this another huge mistake?

Does the expanding foam worry you at all? I'm not sure I'd want it in nibbling range of my rabbits. Other than that I think I'll give it a go.

    A complimentary first cross breed?

What a wonderful bit of advice thanks so much. I've been rather taken with giant French lops lately. The one in the picture is for sale locally but I'm trying to be sensible.

    New Member Introduction

Hi and welcome. I'm new here too and it's probably best (for me) that I befriend you immediately. You sound like the sort of rabbit person I've wanted to pester with questions for the last five months!

    A complimentary first cross breed?

In the five months we've had rabbits I've quickly come to the conclusion that rabbits are just a tiny bit addictive and I keep looking at adding alternative stock to strengthen the qualities of our existing trio. That sounded legit but the reality of it is I see a breed and go ooh I want some...
