    Great Dane puppies

Forgot Aristotle lol. They are doing really good with using puppy pads, like baths, are really starting to wander now. They play a lot.

    Great Dane puppies

Puppy update. They will be 4 weeks old Friday and are 4 pounds, one big guy, the one we are keeping as a future breeder is 5 lbs.

How did you decide to have rabbits?

I don't really remember why or how I got interested in rabbits. I had won a rabbit at a fair and it died shortly after but I had already gotten attached. Later, when I was married, we got rabbits because I wanted to be able to grow our own meat and now I have pedigreed rabbits and want to get...

Chewy rabbit...what did I do wrong?

They were butchered on a Sunday and they were froze, then thawed in the fridge and cooked that Thursday. I want to try it in pot pie and smoked. The rabbits were also 16 weeks old, so older than I personally would butcher them, but we just helped out friends and got two rabbits.

    Great Dane puppies

Friday, September 9 was a busy day for me. Our Great Dane appeared to be in stage 1 labor and it had started Wednesday night. Thursday night I kept checking on her so didn't get much sleep at all, then Friday morning as soon as the vet opened I took her in. Things just didn't feel right and I...

Losing the desire to keep going with rabbits

Since I originally made this post I had sold all the rest of those babies, had a litter and next weekend the last one will be picked up. I have been able to sell them for my asking price and bought a Flemish Giant buck. I still need a doe to go with him and need to add a few more breeders but...

    Nigerian Dwarf goats

I have the opportunity to buy a young doe and buck for a very good price I think. $150 for the buck and $100 for the doe. Hubby is thinking they can stay in the rabbit barn until we build them a goat pen. Our perimeter fence is only barbed wire and will not hold a goat. He thinks it would be a...

To Loan or Not To Loan

Yeah...I would not be comfortable with anyone leasing any animal. There's just too much that can happen and go wrong. I would try to find somewhere else to put the rabbits or sell them. Sometimes selling out really stinks but you can always get back into it farther down the road.

Chewy rabbit...what did I do wrong?

Ok, so today I finally fried up two rabbits. I dipped in egg and milk mixture, then rolled in flour seasoned with salt, pepper, and cajun spices. Fried in the skillet. The texture was chewy. The taste was pretty good but the texture threw me off. Was it overcooked? Any other good ways to cook...

    pre-tattoo identification

I used Sharpies for a while, then my husband bought me Inkzall pens, made by Milwaukee. These will last 2 weeks, where the Sharpie I had to redo every few days. I also use the Inkzall to mark water bottles and the names are still on months later, even after getting wet.

    Rex Rabbit Pellets Recommendation

Feed a 17% protein pellet and I add oats and timothy/alfalfa hay. I use Big V feed out of McAlester OK. It's 50 lbs for $20, no dust, always super fresh and green and my rabbits all love it. I compared it to Purina Pro and it's basically the same, just a lot cheaper.

    New from Kempner Tx

Welcome from Arkansas! We've had a long HOT, dry summer too. Thankfully I never lost any rabbits. I do frozen water bottles, fans on the hottest days with no breeze, ceramic tiles upside down(thanks Big Mac, I didn't know to turn them upside down until you had made the comment a while back lol)...

    Hi from Hawaii!

Aloha! How neat that you're from such a beautiful place. I live in Arkansas and it's very humid here during the summer. It's usually very dry in the summer, we very rarely have long extended periods of rain. I think as long as they have good air flow and shade they should be ok. Mine are kept in...

What’s wrong with his leg? Help.

It would be easy to tell as long as you know what it's supposed to feel or look like normally. I'd say the way he's holding his leg it's the hock joint but could be the hip. Does he move that leg at all? When he hops, does he put any weight on it or does the leg itself seem to be in a "fixed"...

    Lionheads or Rex?

I liked how sweet and friendly the Lionheads were that I had, but their longer coat needs more grooming than I'd like to do. The Mini Rex were ok, I just prefer the standard Rex.

What’s wrong with his leg? Help.

It's impossible to tell what's going on without x rays. I'd say he could have jumped and landed wrong and probably bruised it. Worst case he broke it. Either leave it and see if it gets better or take him in for x rays. I would take the wait and see approach and if it gets worse I would cull him.

    Showing at the County Fair?

I have only ever shown at an ARBA show one time but I'm thinking about doing the county fair this year. I'm sure each fair is different but has anyone shown in their fair and how do they do it? I'm mainly concerned about someone just stealing a rabbit, or some kid feeding a rabbit a corn dog or...

Losing the desire to keep going with rabbits

I wouldn't mind eating the growouts, but with these, I'm afraid there just wouldn't be enough to mess with. They only weigh 4 lbs. I wanted to get Flemish and New Zealand and cross the two. Before when I did that I had fast growing grow-outs and never had an issue selling those for meat either...

Losing the desire to keep going with rabbits

Thanks for the suggestions. The parents to these babies are all good weights, but these babies were born in April and we've had a very hot and dry late spring and summer. When it's 116 heat index, nothing eats very much. All they wanted to eat is hay, which I gave them plenty of. I never said I...
