MOTHS!!!

Oooooooo perhaps not. Being all about no pesticides, I just couldn't justify buying something like that. The cedar shavings have arrived so will be sorting the hides off the floor where I have been casting them like fuzzy Autumn leaves.

    MOTHS!!!

Going to take a nice big box and layer them with shavings again. Have vacuumed each hide and will brush them down with a carding brush to make sure I haven't missed any of the munchers.

__________ Thu Feb 04, 2021 6:09 pm __________

Quite a trip down memory lane...

My crazy sheep idea- All the animal crazy, all the time!

Do they not turn into sheep-sicles? Brrrrr Good to know though, one more thing learned BEFORE I do it myself! Was pondering how nice it would be if human breasts did the sheep/goat thing of disappearing when not needed.

    MOTHS!!!

Needed a black hide for a project so opened my suitcase that holds my 200+ dried hides.... MOTHS aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh there were MOTHS in my hides!!! Thankfully not too many hides damaged but how does one keep moths out of furs and hides, please? I did have them stored in cedar...

My crazy sheep idea- All the animal crazy, all the time!

I get to live vicariously through you and your sheeps, no room still for any of my own. :( Buying 6 Balwin Welsh Mountain fleeces ($3.50 each :D ) and just got 6 Herdwick ($10 each) and am trying to find some blue Shetland but not having much luck. Buying fleeces and reading your posts will...

    Bought as Blue but???

Good to know her color, he is a bit more brown than my last castors but pretty enough to love. :D

Giving up on a doe = immediate litter!

My one surviving doe from last springs disaster is 11 months old and has lived with a buck all her life. As she is a Netherland/lop/lionhead cross I gave up on her last week, dispatched the buck she was in with, put her other brother in the freezer at the same time, and put her sire in with her...

    Over Felting

Pure Shetland! So soft, mmmm love Shetland. I can buy a raw fleece over here for between $5 and $15 (can go much higher but I won't, I am not spinning so don't need best wool) so my room is stuffed with wool. Herdwick, Hillswick, Hill Radnor, and Shetland right now. Smells good. :D Just...

    Bought as Blue but???

No idea! I did think the castor buck looked a bit odd as well but the blues are just OTT in the odd color so I didn't think to ask about his color too.

Is there a market for a new kind of dispatcher?

I laughed out loud at your description of working in your bathroom, I carve in mine! Working on making the area ready, building sheds, saving for equipment, having fun. Will make the prototype and see how much it costs to make one, how well it works, how easy it is to use for any size...

    Anyone using Angoras for meat?

When I crossed rex to my one angora doe (worst mother on Earth, only ever managed to get three kits to weaning with many, many tries, nightmare doe) I got normal length fur, very thick. She was black and I got two blues and a black, if memory serves. The entire experiment ran for about two...

    Starting over, again!

https://photos.app.goo.gl/cKrMVQE8zNug26sL7 The buck and one of the two does, Rex, that I went properly mental and purchased from a breeder last week. Only saw pictures and had to pay for delivery but when a bad attack of rabbitaquirensis hits, one will do ANYTHING to get one's hit (breed) of...

    Over Felting

Oh, the dreaded words! Which simply describes the technique of layering fresh wool onto felt and then either wet or needle felting it on/into the already felted layer. https://photos.app.goo.gl/1sn9NynCUhTTZ5748 https://photos.app.goo.gl/qHnYP1B4e2syohmn9...

    WHY!!!

I know this is an old thread but my dogs once got to the rabbit cages and managed to get most of an entire litter, through the bottom wire, one bit at a time. They would bang into the cage, a kit's leg would fall through and they would pull it off and eat it. Horrible, truly awful. Only...

Being FLAGGED by the PETA police

Go waaaaaay undercover with your stock selling, the ones who want meat will buy and never even mention the word meat. Using the phrase "Once considered a dual purpose..." or "In other times used for meat production...." puts the meat aspect well into the past but will be spotted by the people...

What to do with the extra parts from rabbit processing?

I have heard that Raptor centers have a need for rabbit heads so you might contact one in your area. Or skin them and use them for making bone broth.
