Where do you grow your "weeds"?

I sell comfrey in my Etsy store and in my newest store on My Community Made (I just started to build this newer store yesterday).

Rabbits still feeding from there mother 3 months on

In the wild, this would never be the case. Rabbits wean their kits at about 4 weeks in the wild. If your mom is being chased until she gives in, trust me when I tell you that if she we free to make the choice, she would choose to wean and would have done so 2 months ago. For her sake, consider...

    Nesting Boxes

I think it depends upon the type or style of the nest box. For kindling, I use a nest box that has four raised sides. If a kit accidentally ends up on the outside of that style box far before it should, it can freeze to death in the winter. Therefore, once the kits are old enough to see and hop...

    Nesting Boxes

Some moms do and some moms don't. Then an occasional mom will use the box for everything, and it becomes a major problem. I've had a mom once urinate right into the face of a kit, who inhaled it and drowned. It was the saddest thing. I've had another mom who never made such messes all of a...

    Nesting Boxes

1.5 to 2 weeks. My boxes are such that once babies' eyes open, the most curious little ones inevitably end up over the edge and then cannot get back into the nest. So, at 1.5 to two weeks (as soon as I start seeing open eyes) I turn my boxes on their sides so nothing tragic can happen (think...

Making dried rabbit ear treats for dogs.

The hair is a natural dewormer. It doesn't hurt the dog. I have a tiny 5 pound Maltese who eats my rabbit treats without ever a problem.

    Rabbit fat

I take all visible fat and save it to a gallon freezer bag. Once full, I render the fat and then I cook and bake with it. In my opinion, store bought butter is VERY expensive, cooking oils are so so not good for consumption and ditto for crisco type stuff, so I love having this healthy and...

Making dried rabbit ear treats for dogs.

I dehydrate mine gently at room temperature within a room where I have a dehumidifier running 24/7. The dehumidifier runs in there 24/7 for other reasons and so I decided it was a great place to dry my stretched rabbit hides, ears, feet, tails. I like the idea that they are drying naturally...

Who here is active in the ARBA?

I am an ARBA member, as well as having my rabbitry listed with them. I am still learning about showing. I have shown once, last fall, and plan to show again at 3 events later this spring. I raise Silver Fox. Unlike you, I did not grow up raising rabbits, or any kind of animal. I just started a...

Doe keeps peeing on her kits

I will try something like this if the behavior continues with her next litter. For now, I am just pulling the nestbox until they are old enough to have the nest turned in a few days.

Doe keeps peeing on her kits

I have no way to tell since we have a circulating water system.

Doe keeps peeing on her kits

Yes, this is all what I was thinking. The doe next to her is lackadaisical regarding her kits, and the doe behind her is a first-time mom, so perhaps the other two does are not as concerned about whatever has this more experienced doe concerned.

Picking a Breed and Seller for Starting Out (Pics)

I am a breeder of Silver Fox and I am located in southwestern PA, if that helps. I have had people up from Kentucky for my rabbits.

Doe keeps peeing on her kits

This is one of the thoughts I had, like she's camouflaging their smell. I have 2 other moms with same age litters in the same barn, one to her left, the other behind, no issues with those moms.

Doe keeps peeing on her kits

Good day, all. I've got a seasoned doe who has all of a sudden started peeing on the kits in her nest. This is her 6th litter and she's never done this before. This is her first litter to this particular buck. The kits were born 2/10. Last week her nest was filled with droppings beyond what...

First time butchering yesterday. What to do with heads, ears, feet, tails, etc?

Yes, this thread originated sometime in early 2022. I have butchered many since then! I LOVE the liver and make pate out of it. We can't get enough! :-)

2 week old kit out of nest box and breathing weird :(

My understanding and practice is to swap out the straw from a nest at about 1.5 to 2 weeks with all fresh straw. The reason? By then you've got a lot of droppings and urine built up in the nest and it can cause eye infections in the kits......and maybe even the respiratory infection you've...
