    Husband needs to give shots

It's amazing to me that the story keeps expanding like bread dough. It's one of those stories that could end up being a family saga. In real life or in fiction, even ordinary people lead extraordinary lives. One day we'll have to get caught up properly. It's very nice to see you back.

    Husband needs to give shots

Good for him. It shows maturity and progress when a writer can reread an earlier story and see ways to improve it. I thought he showed promise even when he was beginning. I'm still pounding the keyboard too. I finally realized I had three novels rolled into one, divided it, and now I'm doing...

    Husband needs to give shots

Hard to believe that much time has slipped away, Miss M! Say hi to them for me next time you're talking to them.

    Husband needs to give shots

It's easier with two -- one to hold the rabbit in place and one to do the pinch of the skin and inject. Could one of the kids help him? Hope both your Mom and the Dustbunny will be fine.

    Noisy breathing

About the kits. Certainly you can remove the kits instead. It might be a good idea to let them stay five weeks instead of four, provided they are not too crowded and the doe doesn't get nippy with them. She probably won't because she won't have another set of buns in the oven. You can play all...

    Noisy breathing

You could separate the does -- it would do no harm -- and if the second doe has not already caught it, it might keep it from happening. Normally, any time anything even possibly infectious shows up, putting the affected animal in quarantine is warranted. I'm not real knowledgeable about...

    Noisy breathing

Don't panic! Lots of rabbitries have latent snuffles in their herd. They carry it but are asymptomatic. This happened with my rabbits. When I brought in a rabbit from another source, I naturally quarantined it, but when the month had passed and I put it in a cage near my other rabbits, it died...

    Noisy breathing

I wish I had an answer for you. Unless someone else chimes in who has more experience with this problem, you may just need to take it a day at a time for a little while.

    Noisy breathing

Your treatment plan is interesting and I'll look forward to seeing how this plays out. It's possible it is snuffles, brought on by the stress or moving and then breeding. From what I've read, many rabbits carry a dormant form of snuffles that can flare up under certain circumstances. Hoping...

    Weasel Control

I agree with Preitler that a marten or fisher is more likely than a weasel. Weasels are very small and feed mostly on mice and rats. All three species are members of the weasel family, but martens and fishers are bigger and stronger. A mink is another possibility if you are near water...

    Noisy breathing

Did your rabbits all come from the same rabbitry, JG3? Have you phoned or emailed the previous owner to ask for advice? I'd suggest you examine the doe really well. Pay particular attention to the ribs, watching for any sign of pain when you gently examine them. It's possible that the buck...

The New Safe Plants for Rabbits List

I've fed hostas to my rabbits on occasion, but they weren't as enthusiastic about them as the usual weeds and leaves, and I'd completely forgotten about them. Good addition, bighairbuns.

Glad he's feeling better. He certainly is a sweet venerable old gentleman! :D

Oh, my goodness, Miss M! He's the original dustbunny? I hope the meds help him to get well.

    Just had 9 kits born

Your doe will likely be more successful next litter. Many first time does lose part or all of their first litter. I remember the first kit I lost -- I felt terrible. It had been dragged out of the box on momma's teat when she finished nursing and got chilled on the wire cage floor. But as you...

    Hello from snowy Thunder Bay

Howdy to you, Current River, from about as far south in Ontario as you can go without falling into Lake Ontario. :) Glad to have your with us, and I sure hope the present big snowstorm doesn't hit you hard. ~ MaggieJ

    Just had 9 kits born

That doesn't sound normal. Usually they will snuggle together to keep warm. I suggest removing the nest box from the cage so you can examine it completely. Take the kits out and put them in a small box or other container, and then dig down into the bedding. There could be a dead kit underneath...

    Just had 9 kits born

Hi Colorflower, Glad to have you with us. Your doe did great. It's not uncommon to lose one or two from a large litter, and very often you will not know why. Try not to take it to heart. They look nice and healthy, so the ones remaining will likely do well. ~ Maggie
