Doe nesting extremely early! New record?

No need for anxious, you'll know if it took or not in about thirty days. That's not really all that long at all, consider folks who's livestock can only be bred once a year!

    Hops Vines/Flowers

So if you feed these plants to your bunnies, you get hoppity buns? Does it change the flavor for folks with meat buns?

    Finding Rabbit Breeders

Once you get your rabbits, keeping a good database on them will really be helpful in breeding better rabbits. We use 'Kintracks' here, it's technically a pedigree program, but there's a whole bunch of other data that it keeps track of that making pedigrees is about the least thing we do with...

    Angora breeds & their fiber

Is there a picture of your angora shawl, BigHairBuns? Is it pure angora or did you mix in some other fibers? A pure angora shawl is on my 'to do' list, but nowhere near the top of the list yet. Maybe I can start spinning for it sometime in December, but things will likely stay crazy busy...

A bonded trio. Will it work?

There's an assorted pile of does here who share space. Anywhere from six to sixteen at any particular time and they're in a 1 meter by 3.1 meter space. They do have boxes and ledges to hide in and jump up on. Their hutch is also about 1 meter high so they have headroom to jump and be up on...

    NZ 8 week old kits

They should be fully weaned at six weeks, I'd expect? I only have English angora, which is a smaller breed, so I'm not certain they'd be weaned at six weeks, but ours are pretty much done feeding from mum bun at four weeks. They still stay with her - much to her dismay - until they're eight...

Baby's eye won't open all the way

There was a baby bun like that earlier this year. Didn't seem to have a gunky eye, but didn't open it when the other eye and everybun else's eyes opened. It finally got around to fully opening it about three weeks late, but it's fine now.

RHD has been identified in PA

A case of the virus was found on Maui. They suspect some new workers on the rabbit farm brought it in with them on their clothing since the farm hadn't brought in any rabbits lately. Kinda scary to think the virus can survive on clothing and then infect healthy rabbits. They did bring in some...

Breeding sister and mother daughter pairs?

We've just downsized to only 16 buns at the moment. Previously there were about thirty eight or so of them. Six bucks and the rest were does. The does all lived together in a big two layer hutch. Ten feet by three feet (about 3.1 x 1 meters) Half on the top layer, half on the bottom layer...

What is doable in your perfect rabbit software? I've been looking at software, but I've decided to make my own.

As for the ARBA colors and the non-ARBA colors, you could have them all available but in different colors for the allowable ones and the disqualifying ones. Kintracks has different colors for bucks and does, so different color text can be very useful. Having it available on aphone/tablet as...

To Loan or Not To Loan

Once a rabbit is out of your control, the likelyhood of something happening to it is also outside of your control. If it were me, I'd find somewhere else to relocate the rabbitry. Can you renegotiate with your landlord to let you keep maybe three pairs or some smaller number that would still...

    Show me your hutches!

Up to a dozen does can all live in one big run. It's about ten feet by three feet so it's a pretty big space. Saves a lot of time when opening one door and putting feed in one big dish will feed a dozen at a time.

    Dirty fryers

If there's only eight, process them at home and not worry about cleaning the fur? Maybe in groups of four instead of all eight at once?

    Back in the game...

My friends with cows had the same problem with the kids not eating the critters. Glad things are working out for you now that groceries are expensive - apparently everywhere now.

    Breeding twice?

You could let them try, if she doesn't lift, well, she should already be bred anyway

    Show me your hutches!

The three upper doors and the three lower doors are all the same size for each hutch so they're interchangable. They match the removable floor plates so when a floor plate rots out, it can just be removed and either repaired or replaced instead of having to take the whole hutch apart. There's...

How long after tattooing do you wait to sell your rabbits? Do you use balm on the ear, too?

Usually we only tattoo the rabbits we're keeping. Most folks who buy rabbits from us are only getting one or maybe two so they can tell them apart without tattooing so we've not bothered to tat the rabbits being sold. But, if we were, the buns would go out with a fresh tat. Their new people...

    Hard time selling rabbits

Folks are still selling rabbits on FB, they're just not using the word "sale" or "selling". It's all euphemisms such as 'looking to hop to a new zip code' or some such. Then all the sales details are done via FB messenger. Not my favorite way of selling anything. If you have a separate...

How do you care for a paralyzed rabbit?

Not to be harsh, but it was probably the best result. Almost always when young kits aren't fully functional, they don't survive to adulthood. Not that you wouldn't have taken care of him, but had he survived and lived a usual rabbit life of seven to ten years the level of daily care he would...

    Bonding rabbits from both genders

Switch them in their spaces so pretty soon they will all smell alike. Bunnies are territorial and scent oriented so if they are swapped back and forth in each other's spaces, pretty soon everywhere will be for the combined herd.
