    Exciting! Rabbit breakfast sausage.

I don't have a lot of freezer, so also tried canning sausage as meatballs. No bread crumbs or egg. Roll into balls brown in hot 450* oven so they will hold shape. Making it really cold will help stiffen it so rolls easier. I did Italians in tomato juice, and potato sausage in bun broth. Pressure...

Black with brown patches on silver fox

These happened at about 5-6 months. I thought maybe a teenage thing. The kits raised from these haven't had those distinct patches and once they shed these never had them again. Mine now live in colonies with free access to the outside. They sometimes get a little brownish cast before shedding...

Black with brown patches on silver fox

I don't show so can't answer to that, but my silver fox also get brown patches. They go away. The first 3 I had grew what I called punk rock hair dos. One looked like a heavy shawl across shoulders.may have been the change from cages indoors to lots of outdoor time. I had no interest in showing...

    Urine

I have windows in my shelters. I wash with vinegar and baking soda. 15 minutes later my boys have reclaimed their territory. One really ambitious boy marked a newly built shelter from their yard and also sprayed from outside. He managed 4' up. I'll have to watch for that dance you described.

Asking for feedback on free range successes and failures.

When we went to letting our colony rabbits have free access to their yards they started digging, often in corners or along fence. We joked they were helping the fox who started digging from outside. Daily chore was filling starts along fence. We let them have holes near middle One even nested in...

    Inbreeding?

Just wanted to show off the nice nests Luna and Aria made. Currently 10 kits in each nest. 1 and 1 1/2 week old. Group housing and permanent den boxes.

    Inbreeding?

I was trying to keep my bucks as unrelated as possible.when I had a problem with one buck I replaced him in that colony group with a brother. I have been getting the prettiest kits in litters of 10-12 from that group. Try it. If there's problems , make changes

Feeding rabbits without pellets- is it possible? (your input wanted)

You can feed the whole thing roots and all if it's just water sprouts. If it's in dirt cut and come again will work

Feeding rabbits without pellets- is it possible? (your input wanted)

Most types are ok. We also give swamp spruce, black spruce, balsam.. never yew or cedar (toxic) We feed it more in the winter when everything else is under snow. Summer there's lots from the gardens. Been discovering those are good for us too. White pine makes a delicious, citrus tasting tea...

Feeding rabbits without pellets- is it possible? (your input wanted)

I always give a mix of as many things as possible. Fun to watch them pick and choose their favorites. Many things we weed from the garden are good. Mine especially like daisy, which has become weeds in my garden, violets, viola, marigold, bee balm. Strawberry leaves. Anything in the Cole family...

Raising rabbits for an export market.

Yes! I raise both rabbits and quail. (Jumbo Coturnix) Quail will give both eggs and meat. They are more disease free than chickens. Take less space. However I enjoy the rabbits more. Heard one chef say he hated serving quail. People pick off the breast and waste the rest. Picky people don't want...

First time doe had TEN KITS last night!

There's lots of opinions on the "right" way to do it. When I first started researching rabbits.. someone wrote "never put rabbits together". If I had stopped there, I would have missed the joys of colony raising. The best advice, was someone here (sorry, don't remember who) said "every owner is...

What caused your interests in rabbits?

Yes! We are raising rabbits and quail too. In the north woods with short growing season and sandy soil. Rabbit pellets gave me the nest garden on 50 years even during a drought year.

What caused your interests in rabbits?

?? Your genetic issue with protein caught me. I have a grand daughter who has trouble digesting meat. Wonder if my rabbits could help her. Thanks so much for sharing.

First time doe had TEN KITS last night!

When I bought my silver fox, the breeder told me she usually harvests at 16 weeks. She does not like that yucky job and wants more meat for the effort. Still plenty tender. That has worked well for me. I harvest anywhere from12- 16 weeks. Depending on current needs. (5-8#) sometimes even older...

    Sad About City Code

Check out ideas for pet houses made from repurposed furniture. I have seen cute pics of tv stands, coffee tables, china cabinets etc that may fit other places. Thrift shops and the local dump may be good sources. Often cheaper than buying the wood. Heard some have even trained rabbits to accept...
