    Possible New Rabbitry Logo

I designed it myself. I didn't use a website, just some photo editing software on my computer.

    Summer breeding?

I live in Northern California. I breed primarily during the fall to spring as our summers are far to hot. I try to make my last breeding by May 1st, earlier if temps are rising above 80*F. I do not breed at all once the temps stay above 85*F.

How do you keep track of kits

I use a fine tip colored sharpie and put a mark on the ear to tell them apart. Then when old enough to sex I put an additional mark a dot on the boys and a line for the girls.

Not new, it's just been a while

Welcome back! It seems that we all drift back to rabbits, we just can't seem to stay away.

    Help with colors?

I have some kits that where born from a black Dutch buck and a Golden Yellow Dutch doe. I am guessing the buck is a VM carrier as i get the blue eyes occasionally, mismarks often, and I have Steel babies in every litter. Pictured below is one of his daughters that I kept back to breed for meat...

    Not new, but returning!

If you have a sunny location maybe you can use a solar setup to run some computer fans to each cage so there is airflow to help keep them cooler. Here is a link to a youtube video that shows how one homesteader did it.

Have you considered using frozen gallon jugs? I reuse the jugs from our milk once we have finished it. Wash them out, refill about 3/4 of the way full then put them in the freezer. I then place them in the cage and the rabbits lean up against them. The gallon jugs seem to last most of the day at...

    Not new, but returning!

I have misters in my rabbitry and I often go out there and hang with them during the heat of the day because it is soo much cooler then our house with a swamp cooler going. I also have those false marble tiles from home depot (can also get at any home improvement store) that I keep in the...

    Mucoid enteritis?

So sorry for your loss. It is hard when we loose ones that fight so hard.

Do you find it soothing when petting your rabbit?

Very much so. I often spend time with the rabbits when I have had a particularly stressful day.

    What color is this kit?

Without knowing what breed I can only guess, though it looks like the kit with the blue underneath would be a Tort. There are others that have more knowledge than me that will chime in for sure though.

    Spider Bite?

So this is this morning, seems to have sealed up well, though looks like she will have a knot of scar tissue there for the remainder of her life. But better then her having to be culled.

    Spider Bite?

Thank you Alaska. I'll probably end up taking her with me when I head to my mom's for her surgery July 1st so I can keep an eye on her. Though if it is closed by then I will leave her at home and not stress her with travel.

    Spider Bite?

Hello all. I have been dealing with what I believe to be a nasty spider bite. I live in the costal hills of Northern California where I have Black Widows, Brown Widows, and Brown Recluses as neighbors unfortunately. A few days ago I was out checking on the rabbits before turning off the misters...

    Grey lungs with red spots

I get lungs that look like this when I have not bled out well after doing Cervical Dislocation before I remove the offal.

    Nesting Early?

A good way to practice palpating is to get some green grapes and make some spaghetti noodles, you can use sauce or just some water till it is slippery inside a ziplock bag. Then once everything is in the ziplock with excess air removed, close your eyes and try to feel the grapes. once you can...

    Nesting Early?

Most of the time a doe starts nesting 2 weeks early it is usually a false pregnancy, meaning the breeding didn't take. When this has happened at my barn I try scratching towards the front of her hips, just behind the ribs, if she "presents" then I know I need to try the breeding again. If that...
