What am I doing wrong? Mystery illness killing baby rabbits.

Lack of nutrition is my best guess. Just because their bellies are not bloated doesn’t mean it can’t be a dietary problem. Identify what you are feeding your animals is very important. Not only should you know to make sure it is safe, but also to make sure they are getting all the nutrients...

New with so much to learn!

She looks like she could be a New Zealand to me. Do you have a pic of your other New Zealand by chance?

    Help needed, becoming more official.

I was working on swapping my records over to digital templates (post on those coming soon) to be a little more “official” and organizing. I thought that while I’m doing that I might as well make a few things regarding sale/purchase of rabbits/items. I have a general idea of the answers to the...

How heavy should my kits be?

how much did the parents weigh? how much space do they have? were they all good nursers? "Normal" weight has a lot of variation from rabbit to rabbit; the weight depends of genetic and environmental factors. With that said, i think the weight of the larger one is a good size, the runt does seem...

    New to Showing Californians

Hello fellow cali shower, nice to have you hear. I have shown mostly 4-H, but can help with most ARBA questions as well. Californians fur is temperature sensitive; abrupt temperature changes can cause smut to appear on the white of the coat which is a disqualification. With that said, in the...

When you take a rabbit for slaughter and don't bring it back, how do other rabbits react?

If done properly and respectfully the rabbits will not know what is going on and you will have no problems. Key element to keep in mind. Keep the processing area far away and out of the wind path of the live rabbit area/barn. Rabbits can smell death if close enough, and although they probably...

County Fair Results! +more (Long blog)

This was my last county fair as a 4-Her. I learned this year that getting older is an amazing experience, but can be a painful one as well. I strived to make the most of it this year and I’m glad that I could accomplish that. Before we start off I would like to give credits to my brother. I do...

Baby's eye won't open all the way

Just keep the crusty out of it and keep an eye on it. Possible causes: Adoration from foreign object (hay in the eye is common it kits) Inflammation of the inner eyelid, I don’t think it is that given the. Conjunctivitis. Another common one that often occurs in kit. Usually the eye lid...

    Animal Wanted Maine?

Not in the area but here are a few tips/suggestions that may help. You can look at this site. https://arba.net/find-a-breeder-2/ This is just the registered breeders so there may not be much, but you could at very least contact one of them and see if they know others around. I would also look...

Taking doe to a different rabbitry for breeding

Well! after my GP’s doe had the car ride, strangers house, and stress of ears being eaten she did get pregnant and had a healthy litter. I feel receptiveness in times of stress really just depends on the tameness of the doe, receptiveness in general really.

Taking doe to a different rabbitry for breeding

I’ve only herd one story from my mom about it back in the 80s. Her dad bred, showed and ate rabbits and had anywhere from 100-250 at a time. He specialized in rex and the tri color variety, which was not popular back then (he’s one of the reasons the variety is still around where I am.) So, when...

    Breeds??

Frodo looks similar to Rex Flemish crosses I’ve seen, but he is quite small for that. I was thinking maybe Havana for Aragon, but I’m not sure. maybe this website could help find the breed or mix of breeds that they are All rabbit breeds recognized in USA by American Rabbit Breeders Assoc.

What color is this? Is it actually just black?

I tried to but I only have an iPhone 5c to use for a camera atm so it kind sucks/is glary no matter what. I’ll tri in a couple days though.

What color is this? Is it actually just black?

This is dahlia, her mom is pure bred Californian and her dad is a pure bred rex, black and orange tri (not sure of his background.) Her litter included two cal marked, one cal marked but in a broke pattern, one broke black, and her which i thought was pure black. She is 8 weeks old, so coming...

Lovely little mini rex kits born! Colors?

The first two are definitely chocolate otters, and the second is a black otter. I’m really not sure about the third though, maybe posting another pick in a week or so would be good. It looks to dark/red to be a lynx, then again I haven’t had much experience with that color.

    Ear mites ivermectin?

I use a concoction of canola oil infused with garlic. The oil will suffocate the ear mites and the garlic will keep the rabbits from licking/cleaning it out (in most cases.) Make sure to massage the base of the ear before and after applied to break up and scabs. olive oil should work as well...

Bragging about my latest rabbit tractor

damn, this is thorough! Thank you so much 😊 I’m hoping to make some tractors so that our rabbits can gain a bit more muscle, but still stay safe from the rodents. I really liked this one, this helps a ton.
