Are chickens easier and cheaper than rabbits?

My experience, Rabbit meat costs more to produce than broiler breed chicken meat, largely because of the need to maintain adult breed stock. And... Commercially produced rabbit feed ,costs a lot more than chicken feed.. There is no plausable excuse for the high cost of rabbit feed, other than...

    Buck Won't Breed the Does?

If he seems hesitant after getting on.. then gets back off... check his *****, and sheath to see if there is inflamation, or hair stuck in there. Check his testicals for imflamation or abnormality.

    Ear mites scourge!

I use injectable bovine ivermectin sub Q , on all adult breeders at the same time, if I have a doe with kits that are past the nursing stage I isolate her then treat her after the kits are gone. When I treat all rabbits at the same time, I have never had a mite problem come back later.

Very skinny 7 week old dwarf kit, how to put weight on him?

unfortunately.. sometimes kits just "fail to thrive".. you can try feeding some oatmeal, and carrots to him to see if he gains some weight. In my experience, these kits rarely improve very much. They have a "birth defect" that keeps them from efficiently utilizing their feed. Even when...

    Rabbit needs to lose weight

It is a lot like raising a child, You should not expect them to be "happy" or "satisfied"... with every thing a parent must/should do... "for their protection, and health"...

    Rabbit needs to lose weight

Some rabbits can gain weight on hay alone, so weight loss is very individual.. I would first start by limiting the daily pellet ration. Feed 1/2 cup at first, then adjust the amount up or down as needed. If limiting the pellets is not enough, you can always cut back on the hay, or feed a lower...

    Treating Glaucoma? (With pictures)

JMHO, --I would first treat for an eye infection.. as it looks exactly like one.. also pull back/up on the eye lids ,just enough to see if there is junk, or hair under the eye lid..

Are chickens easier and cheaper than rabbits?

In my experience, If you are buying all of your feed, "cornish cross meat chickens" have a much better feed conversion ratio than rabbits. Chicken will be cheaper / lb than rabbit meat. Butchering chickens is easy for some people, and not so easy for others.. If you want the skin on the...

How plump is too plump for kits?

don't worry about kits over-eating when they are nursing.. firstly , there is nothing constructive you can do about it, and secondly, getting involved in that process, usually just causes trouble.. If you should notice empty shrunken abdomens, then be concerned..

    Front leg injury

best = prevention - make sure he has a board, or piece of carpet to rest on.. in my experience, topical medications didn't help much.

    Front leg injury

if you gently squeeze the leg and foot, gradually moving from top to bottom... you will see a reaction when you get to "the damaged" area This will give you a "place" to examine more carefully .. If you cut 4 leg holes in a feed sack, you can create a "sling, with his legs dangling.. it...

    Hide box poop collection?

My old style checkerd giant, used to pile the dry poop in a back corner of their cage.. they were raised in a solid bottom cage with deep bedding .. They also were agrivated when I removed it.. I never figgured out why they did this.. your theory/hypothesis makes sense..

    Oh, Baby Bunnies

Once uppon a time ... I raised a lot of rabbits in "old style solid bottom cages" with deep straw bedding. There were no nest boxes. the does dug a depression out, built a nest, and kindled in the back corner. When the kits began leaving the nest, they ate poop, straw, and whatever the doe was...
