I have a lot of questions

Congratulations! Not at all surprised. I would have been shocked if she had 'absorbed' them. IMO most vets are not helpful - but good at pushing shots & meds. Obviously he didn't know what he was talking about when he said she would absorb them. . . .. so, maybe be careful following his...

I have a lot of questions

Why in the world would the vet say she was going to absorb the babies? That's bizarre. She's pregnant she's probably going to have a bunch of babies and if you don't get the buck out of there she's going to have a bunch more LOL that's what rabbits do. That's why they say "_____ like rabbits" LOL

(Hack) Deep litter method in cages

Well, I doubt that this has anyone watching it. I think they just mow it when it gets tall and bale it up.

(Hack) Deep litter method in cages

They must self-select because I give them all of it. I figure rabbits in the wild don't have anyone saying 'don't eat that' ... haven't had any problems in 2 years. I have no idea what is in it, except one obnoxious plant with GIANT burrs. I try to keep them out, they get wound up in their fur...

(Hack) Deep litter method in cages

I sorta use deep litter when it's super hot and the kits are small. I let it build up to a few inches, but because of the misters it stays wet, so I don't let it hang around more than a few days. I am very interested in your method of feeding the buck only hay. What kind of hay do you use? I...

More air or more shade delimma

I live in central Texas. I have 3 suggestions. #1 - cheap & easy - hang some towels, burlap sacks, etc either inside, or on top of the cages so they get wet from the mister. You're basically making an evaporative cooler. When I did this, I did not use a fan because it replaced the cooler air...

    Exterior nestboxes?

I'm interested to hear of your experience with this setup. I wouldn't like not being able to get into the cage. One of the things I love about my dog crate cages is the doors are huge and I can practically crawl inside if I need to. Just in case you don't end up liking the set-up, you can...

    Its too hot

About fans - I don't think fans are helpful in a lot of cases. Fans cool us because it evaporates the sweat. Rabbits don't sweat, so you can't cool them with evaporation. I'm more afraid that it would cause dehydration. If there is evaporative cooling and you need to move the cooler air...

    Its too hot

Lows of 80s highs of 105 this week. My rabbits are in a covered L shape beside 2 outbuildings. Some breeze, but not much. I have 1/2 towel hung INSIDE the cage, about in the middle of the cage. I have a mister set up to spray into the cage on an interval timer (5 minutes every 15 or 30, from 9...

    Exterior nestboxes?

Does this mean you have no access to the inside of the cage unless you take the basket off? Am I missing something? Do you have a second door? I would not like to be unable to access the interior of the cage. I handle my kits a lot :) it's the biggest perk of raising rabbits LOL. I must be...

    Exterior nestboxes?

Will the weight on the door make the door sag or the hinge fail? Just something to consider. I have very heavy cages (metal dog crates) and hanging their 1/2 gallon water jugs on the door makes some of them more difficult to open/close.

    Any Suggestions For My Logo?

I tend to sell 50/50 pets/meat. People in Texas don't seem to be put off by my asking do you want these for breeding or for pet. The only issue I've had with any of the pets I've sold is when I sold two females and one turned out to be a male. But, I actually made out on that one, I got the...

Thanks that's my favorite :) Now I need to get around to actually putting it up on my website. :D

    Exterior nestboxes?

I would be more likely to cut a hole at the back or side of the cage and mount the nest box with a hinged top. You could either close it off when not in use, or make it removable with a door to seal the hole in the cage. The last time I had rabbits (in Callaway, VA), I built hutches with...

    Vent bleeding 9 day kit

Is bleeding a normal or somewhat usual problem? Any idea what the cause is? Have you had this happen in the past or is this a new problem? I've never ever heard of this happening.

    Strange (to Me) Kit 🐰

That's interesting, but she was perfectly clean. Just really wrinkly. I think she was just too small to get enough to eat the first couple days. There were 9 kits and she was the smallest. She's since caught up :)
