    She gave birth...now what!?

I wasn't sure if my doe was pregnant, but I counted the days and figured it was any time now, so I put in a nest box. Sure enough, this morning I went out there and she's got 6 babies, all alive!! I'm all flustered and twitter pated, so I'm not sure what to do! She'd had them outside the box, in...

    Inflamed, Goopy Eye

Huh--I would never thought about a dental issue! Thanks! I'll have a look at his mouth in the morning. Is there anything in particular I should look for? He's my meat father-bun, so I don't handle him too often--I want to make sure I don't stress him out. I read about Terramycin Ophthalmic...

    Inflamed, Goopy Eye

This morning while feeding my buck, I noticed one of his eyes was plastered shut. I did a little googling, and went to clean it out with clean warm water. That's when I noticed his lids were inflamed so that's why it was shut. I've also noticed he hasn't been eating his feed since I brought him...

My First Time! Getting Started (Virgin Doe!)

So my doe is finally at an appropriate age to begin breeding. I brought home a seasoned year-old buck (proven) from a rabbit breeder. My question is this: how long do I let him acclimate to his new home before bringing the doe to him? And then.....how long do I leave her in there with him?

    Dog Attacked doe...

Thanks all! Unfortunately, he didn't make it. But I appreciate all the advice--now I just have to go reinforce the fencing :(

    Dog Attacked doe...

Miss M, thank you so much! Turns out it was my buck ;) Anyway--I did just that--a small little basket with the heating pad and wrapped in a towel. I cuddled him close to me, and his ears, which WERE chilly, are much warmer now. I don't mind nursing him, I just don't know what to do. Definitely...

    Dog Attacked doe...

But there aren't any visible injuries/puncture wounds/blood. I think I got home just in time--he ripped through the rabbit fencing. He just likes "playing" with them. When I found her, she was on her side, panting. I THINK she's in shock, don't know for sure. She let me pet her, which she never...

Brand New Beginner!! Need help with a queasy stomach!

Wheels, Thank you so much! That is VERY helpful! When i was browsing CL there were a few I thought "ooh I want those because they're so pretty!" So I knew for sure I wouldn't be calling on those--I can't have pretty/cute rabbits when i want some to eat. I hadn't really articulated it quite like...

Brand New Beginner!! Need help with a queasy stomach!

Hullo all! I'm a brand spanking new beginner, but like a lot of younger hippies, I'm very VERY interested in ethically raising my own meat and trying to remove myself as much as possible from the Food Industry. The problem I'm having right now is that I do NOT want to become a vegetarian, and I...
